Issues at Vail Avis
Really the Seinfeld episode…
I had a prepaid reservation for a minivan. Get here, they are out of minivans. They offer an “upgrade” to a small SUV which has no chance of fitting my party of 6 + lots of luggage (it’s a ski trip). They have suburbans available but force me to pay to upgrade. I have No choice at the counter so I do it.
Any recommendations or recourse for me here? Is it worth trying to call Avis Corporate or going to be rejected. I’m just a lowly Preferred Plus member.

A bit late here, but standard procedure is that they should have given you the Suburban (Premium SUV) at no extra charge. Make a stink about it at return, or if necessary to Avis corporate (Vail is a corporate location) and they will eventually remove the upgrade change almost guaranteed. You just need to know your rights and be firm and persistent.
In fact, there was someone else in another recent thread who experienced a complete sell-out situation and they had to rent from another company (Sixt IIRC) for like $800 more, and Avis reimbursed them for the difference.

Just a quick update-
I complained at return which got me no where. Called Avis corporate when I got home and was refunded the upcharge immediately no questions asked.
Still annoying, but at least they ended up making it right.
