It lists the example as "Cadillac XTS AWD or similar". I'm trying to understand if that means I am guaranteed an AWD car or that just happened to be the example they had? Turo just canceled a reservation a night before my trip and all SUVs are booked

SLC has several MKX in luxury that are AWD. I think XTS is a category above though.

The Lincoln MKT (the ugly one) is definitely in the Luxury Class despite being an SUV as Avis has tried to pawn this off on me at several locations. As for the MKX, I received one on a luxury rental through Enterprise but don't know what Avis classifies them as.

Nope - Avis puts these as Luxury.
I would personally ask for an XC60 though as that is also in the luxury category.
I think MKT is also considered luxury in Avis.
300S/300/300C is also luxury at Avis - those are also AWD. I consider that to be the worse option for a lux booking at Avis.
