Problems with Avis site???

I was wondering if anyone has experienced problems with the avis website lately? I get the message:
"avis.com is temporarily unavailable.
For reservations in the US, please call 1-800-230-4898.

For all other transactions, please check back soon."

Based on recent posts it doesn't appear that others are having problems but I have been for the past 5 days or so. Could they restrict access to those who have been "fare searching" by using different codes? Perhaps through cookies (although I have deleted them on my machine)?

I got this from them today, along with another problem that I'm having on their website:

"Avis is doing updates to the My Avis section of the website, and you may
have difficulties signing in until the updates are complete."

I was able to book a car today on Avis - but it was by accessing their website through a "sponsors link" at the top of a google search page (url is very complicated). Still get the same message from Avis when trying to access through www.avis.com.

Well, it's almost THREE MONTHS since that last message....and the Avis website STILL seems to have serious problems!

On April 5, I registered my Wizard number online and made some updates to it (replaced an obsolete CC number, etc.). I then made a reservation (after trying various discount codes posted here and elsewhere) using my account. So far, so good.

However, the same day, the website stopped letting me log in with my Wizard number. It just brought up a screen with the message, "We are unable to process your request at this time" followed by phone numbers to call for reservations or help. Since that time -- i.e., in the last five days -- I have not EVER been able to log in again! I finally called the help number and talked to three different CSR's, none of whom seemed to have definitive information on the problem. They all seemed to think that there were problems with the website, but no details. The third one actually tried logging in (presumably with her or a test Wizard number) with similar results to mine.

The bottom line seems to be that Avis doesn't consider its website to be a crucial part of their business, and if a customer can't log in for five days....so what???

"We try harder?" Phooey!

Kathy

I have also trouble with avis.com. On Monday an Avis agent told me system was down.
I could make a reservation with Avisworld http://www.avisworld.com/home/set_home.asp

When I try to use the avisworld site, all I get is the following screen:

"Sorry. Your user session has timed out.
Please click on the button below to back to the homepage."

And when I click on the button, I just get the same thing!

I have been told that one of their major problems is related to Selects who try and book after signing into the Select area. The other is when someone has a defaulted discount code from a renewable membership club.If , for instance, your default code is from Costco or AAA, after a set time (generally a year) the computer rejects you because it doesn't know if you are still a member. Sounds crazy, but this is their explaination. Last week, I was able to book on-line for the first time since the new website was up. Avis manually redid my profile with the "famous "D002807" code as my default.I will book again today and see if all is still okay.

In other words, certain Wizard accounts get disabled for one reason or another? NONE of the CSR's I spoke to even mentioned this possibility! They all just ascribed it to "problems with the website," rather than investigating to see if there is a problem with my individual account.

I have now sent a query via the Avis website to see if that gets any more helpful response.

I, too, got the "session timeout" message on the avisworld site, but was able to reset without problem and booked a reservation just now.

Bottom line, try and get your AWD default code off your profile. Then try it. It's now working for me.

Strangely enough, I was able to use the avisworld.com website on my computer at work. But I still can't use it at home (even after I tried deleting all the Avis-related cookies on that computer).

I was able to cancel my existing reservation and book a new one, so all is OK for now.

If Avis doesn't fix my Wizard account so that I can log in at avis.com (in response to the two e-mails I recently sent), I'll call and ask them to remove the AWD number from my profile, if that is what it takes!

Once your register with My Avis, you can do the above yourself. Log on, and simply modify your profile. You can change your AWD code anytime you want.

I don't think you've read my posts. The whole point is, I CAN'T log on at the avis.com website! I was able to log in at avisworld.com, but that site doesn't offer profile update as an option.

Despite phone calls and e-mails to Avis, I haven't gotten Avis to fix my Wizard account to permit login; jabez suggested I call them and ask them to remove the AWD number to see if that fixes the problem.

Anyway, please read the thread carefully before posting any more responses.

Kathy
