Lost items on Avis Car
Has anyone met with a similar incident?
While returning the car to AKL Airport, I left my sunglasses and GPS Suction cap in the car.
When i remembered, i walked back to the Avis Counter to get the keys, they said the drivers took it back to the service centre.
Then i emailed Avis NZ, and they say nothing was reported.
Its the span of 10 minutes which i don't understand. If such thing is happening, it just shows how clean their hands are.

I exchanged a Ford Taurus to the ORD location due to suspected air/faulty fuel line (the fuel gauge was doing whacky things, even for a digital gauge). The managers even approved my returning with a non-full tank due to the fact they'd likely have to drain the gas or at least the fuel line to remedy it. About 45 minutes after leaving the location (which was three, yes three hours after originally arriving, to which the car I was exchanging had sat the entire time exactly where I had parked it) I realized I'd left some items in the car. Returned to ORD location and Budget had already rented the car back out
. The lot manager was NONE too happy about them having done so and made clear she had not authorized them to do so. Also turned out the guy they rented it to did not have a phone number on file, AND did not return the car on time (I was in the area through his original return date), so needless to say I never saw those items again. So, at least in my experience, with Avis, if you forget something, consider it gone.

Last year, I left a headset at the BOS station. I called a day or two later when I realized that I must have left it in the car. BOS said they had it, and I planned to get it when I went back to BOS in a couple of weeks.
On that next trip, I went to the "Lost & Found." Avis asked if I had my postcard, which I hadn't seen. Apparently, the postcard has a tracking number for the lost item. So instead, they went back through their system and found the tracking number. Then, a nice woman from Avis spent 10-15 minutes go through boxes and shelves in a small storage closet. That closet with was filled with everything you can think of that could get left behind in a rental car. She eventually found the headset.

At JFK you take the free train to the rental facility that all the companies share. I dropped off the car, hopped on the train and realized I left my headphones behind, so at the first airport terminal I switched trains to go back. Fortunately they service the cars at the same location as dropoff and they were busy vacuuming my car. The serviceman had them there for me!

A big shout out to the KCI (Kansas City Airport) crew - forgot my overcoat in the back seat. When I realized it a day later and called, the staff said the car was rented out until April 13 (I lost it on April 3) and wouldn't be able to find out if it was still there until then. This morning, received a call from the lady responsible for lost and found reporting that it will be mailed to me tomorrow. They found it.

Also had positive experience with National. Stupidly left my iPhone right in the change area. As the agent was checking in the car, she goes "do you have everything?" Me: "yes". Her: "Thanks for the new iPhone" as she hands it to me.
Wrote National a letter to compliment her.

Left a pair of glasses somewhere in the car upon return to MIA last week. Dropped it off at 5AM. By 11AM i had a call saying that they were found(didn't yet realize they were even lost!). I had them returned to me by mail in three days. Very impressed and grateful.

Another one ... left my personal EZPass mounted to a National rental while returning at ORD. The agent literally stopped the bus from leaving, came on and handed it to me. And this is why I am super loyal to National.

I left an ipod nano in a SUV at SJC this morning. A middle-aged female agent ran all the way to the elevator to hand it back to me. I used to rent National frequently, and only started renting from Avis recently. From my limited experiences (SFO, SJC, local) so far, service has been as good as National. I am looking forward to more car rentals from Avis.
