I don't know how the FL tags are affixed to the windshield, but in CA and on the east coast, I usually pull the Avis box off the windshield entirely, store it in the armrest and put my personal tag on the Velcro mount. Even if the box jostles open while in storage, it's usually deep enough in the vehicle that the tag won't read (and my tag would take priority anyway).

As a precaution, just take a small strip of tape with you and seal the box shut at the start of your rental.
