What you say about car rental companies is incorrect, since car rental companies, by and large are unprofitable, and have been for many years. Of the three main "wings" of the travel industry, airlines, hotels, and car rentals, only the hotel business is consistently profitable. Airlines have not been consistently profitable since deregulation (1978), and car rentals have not been consistently profitable for over a decade, due mostly to the Internet. So, your arguement about taking advantage of business travelers is a weak argument. Do not get me wrong, I do not like paying higher prices for cars any more than the next guy, however, I like to do it for the right reasons, and not for my own personal justifications that have nothing to do with reality. Eventually, the airline business is going to consolidate further, out of necessity, and there will be less capacity, and prices will be higher, and the same will happen in car rentals, and we will all be paying higher prices there too, much higher I think. In the end, will it really be worth it having saved $7 per day using a discount we were not entitled to?

You must have poor discount codes, as the ones I use save close to 40-60% per rental, much much more than $7.00.
Once the day comes you speak of, of which we will all be paying more, then so be it... until then I will continue to do what can do to get the best deal possible....

I just used $7 as an example. If you will read back on this thread, I am getting 40% off with the rental I am on now, legitimately.

However, using an AWD number which you are not entitled to is fraud! Using a coupon code which is publically available is totally legitimate. I am entitled to use the AWD number I am using, because I paid for my ENTERTAINMENT membership, but if I was not, then I could use K444404, since I am entitled to use that as a nominee of Marquis (now Net) Jets. Anyone else who uses those numbers without authorization is technically committing a crime, bottom line.

If that was technically a crime half the folks on this forum would be in jail.....
Take a look at the 1,859 posts on the top of this Avis forum titled "Avis discount codes". The majority of those posts are on AWD codes, not MU codes.

Forgive the late reply, but just stumbling across this thread now.

There was one occasion where I did use a discount code. Upon checking in at the desk, I was asked to produce the voucher with that code on it, to "prove" I qualified for the discount.

Fortunately this was all legitimate, and was able to produce the discount coupon as requested by the agent.

Sounds like they don't request the coupons much any more?

Most discount codes actually don't require a coupon so there is not much they can request.

Please show me where it is says this under Under States Title Code 18???

And much more are just "one time" promo. If you have seen the deal too late, you can never have even just one discount code. What a pity. They should put the duration longer, right?
