Error 2.1

I purchased LifeMiles after confirming award seat availability through Thai Airways, United Airlines, and LifeMiles’ system. However, when I tried to redeem the miles, I encountered Error 2.1 repeatedly, even after trying different routes and dates.

Now, I have over 200,000 miles in my account but cannot use them for anything.
Key issues:

1. Seat availability was confirmed before purchase.

2. Attempts to redeem miles failed consistently with “Error 2.1.”

3. I tried alternate flights and dates, but the issue persisted.

4. Despite the unusable miles, customer service refused a refund, leaving me with over 200,000 miles I cannot use.

What should I do in this situation? Has anyone faced a similar issue and found a solution?

Thank you in advance for your advice!

Then it is probably not available and the reason why you get the error. Try again later/another day.

I initially found availability on the LM platform, so I cross-checked to confirm before deciding to purchase the miles and make the booking. However, I couldn’t complete the booking at all. It feels as though I’ve been deceived somehow.

it's BKK-ICN round trip BC on Mar 26-1 Apr 2025
After checking and purchasing miles, I planned to use them for a specific route. However, when an error occurred, I tried searching for other available flights shown and attempted to confirm bookings from other sources, but none of them were successful—neither on any routes nor on any dates, including ICN, NRT, HND, CTS, and KIX.

A regular search only shows Eva flights in Y. Try booking one ways and selecting TG, Star A, etc. as options which might trick the system.

The booking system is quite bad. When I tried to find answers, they told me their system is normal and even tried to teach me how redeeming miles works, even though I’ve never experienced anything like this when redeeming miles elsewhere. Anyway, I’ll try to find a way to use the miles I purchased. Thank you.

Unfortunately, I also have the same issue with them. Typically I try from Australia to Bangkok etc.

Occasionally, I can get some flights, it looks like last minute availability is normally easier with them

This is a known issue that has been going on for months. Lifemiles is blocking Thai premium redemptions, regardless if you select Thai, Star Alliance, or Smart Search when attempting to book. The only way it will possibly get fixed is if bloggers start calling them out.

Nothing to do with Lifemiles. Problem exists and persists on LH, AC, NH and other Star Alliance programs. Only United shows some seats. Not talking about carrier specific search, which never worked for TG on LM when the seats didn't show in Star Alliance search.

So to clarify, the other programs show Thai availability that is not bookable?

No. They show nothing. United shows some seats. All other programs show nothing. Forget about the thai search on LM. Whatever it shows is not award inventory. Thai is the one restricting.

Edit: Calling LM to book a flight that shows availability on United is not possible. The agents don't see that availability.
