F Class question, JFK-ICN

Hi everyone. I'm considering booking OZ 221 (JFK-ICN) as part of a reward ticket. The flight is for Feb 2012. I have a couple questions...

(1) SeatGuru shows the Asiana 777 as having only business and economy class. Is this inaccurate? How does OZ let me book F on such a plane?

(2) How is Asiana's First Class product? Is it new for the JFK-ICN routing? Not a lot of info on the web for some reason.

Enjoy a comfortable and convenient service on the wing with Asiana Airlines.

I have done this route in OZ F. It was a 5* experience. ^ If you have the opportunity to book it you certainly should snap it up asap.

Hi Dr HFH,
You will love Asiana. TBIT in LAX (security) is a zoo but Asiana escorts paying first class customers to the first class lounge from check in desk and then to the gate! The only let down is everyone then piles onto the same bus to the plane.
Have fun!

Is this service new ? I know they will do that in ICN, but never heard or experienced that they do it anywhere else that have F service.

I do not know if it is new but they did escort us in LAX on Jan 7th this year.
In addition: because the OZ flight was running late because of winter headwinds, they also escorted us to our SQ flight in ICN.

The service was super!

Thanks, I've heard only good things and am looking forward to it. If only they had better F award availability ex-US. Alas, I'm not a paying F pax, using miles for that rare OZ F reward seat, so no escort, I guess. Interesting about the bus. I've been at the LAX Admiral's Club many times right after lunch, and almost always see the OZ 744 right opposite on TBIT. I didn't think that they were assigned parking stands that often.

Last November a coworker and I had this at LAX, our incoming flight was 1.5 hours late and we were fretting, but at check in OZ staff assured us that we would make the flight and they knew our incoming flight was late. They also brought us to the lounge for a bit before the flight and escorted us to the plane.

I just used CO miles to give my MIL a JFK-LAX-ICN ticket (UA p.s. F and OZ F)... Luckily she was a bit flexible on the dates.

Are there any other lost perks when one travels on a mileage ticket? My MIL has never flown international F, so I'm writing a little guide for her (what lounges to go to, etc.) so she gets the most out of the experience.

Is there any sort of arrivals lounge (shower, etc.) in ICN?

You are a nice son in law to send your MIL half way around the world in international first class! ( Or is it a one way trip?)

JFK-LAX-ICN
At JFK be sure she goes to the First class side of the lounge also the same at the Star Alliance lounge in TBIT in LAX. ( AT TBIT the star alliance lounge First class side of the lounge is on the window side. She will be able to check her bags through to ICN. The United terminal is about a 5-10 min walk at LAX to TBIT. There is a shuttle bus that that is more of a hassle than walking.
You should check with DrHFH, to see if they escorted them through security at LAX, since he was on a mileage ticket too. (however I would NOT tell you MIL to expect an escort) AS for ICN arrivals lounge you will have to check with Asiana on that one. If there is one she will be entitled to use it.

It's one-way , as she doesn't know when she'll need to return. CO's new enhancement (a real one; they used to require a r/t for mileage redemptions) let me grab this routing for 70k miles.

Thanks! I've only done a (outside security) terminal transfer at LAX twice (one r/t), and I do recall that the shuttle was annoying.

I'm not that concerned about the ICN arrival issue, as I'm sure she'll want to get into the city ASAP. I'll tell her to ask about it at LAX or during the flight.
