A week in Bali

I need some help. Booked 5 nights in Bali, I can stay at LE MERIDIEN NIRWANA. I have never been to Bali before and I read a lot about KUTA for nightlife. This is probably my only vacation for a long time, although a short one. Relaxing on the beach during daytime and partying at night. Where should I stay? I work for Starwood, so I usually I stay at our properties. Any other word of wisdom?

what kind of budget?

boutique properties or private villas usually offer a better value than chain properties like le meridien nirwana (although you might also see how cheap you can get villas at le meridien or laguna nusa dua between upgrades/points/etc) and luxury properties are cheap compared to other regions.

if youre mainly concerned with nightlife, that might be another reason to get a villa or go with a boutique property (many with villas too) in just the right area. hopefully youll get some feedback on that kind of thing.

some location discussion

Nightlife in Bali

most of the night life is centered around Kuta and Seminyak.

Jalan Double Six - is where a lot of the night clubs are located.

I would be very careful in attending night clubs - due to the risk of being set up for drug use or drug purchase - the dealers pay off the police who in turn get information from the dealers as to who they sold to.

If you are a drug free persons - just be careful.

Night clubs are also the target for terrorism - so if there is another cell lurking - its a possibility.

Bali is a wonderful place - just exercise care and caution. The Nirwana property is set in a beautiful spot on the coast overlooking Tanah Lot, a bit remote for a trip home from a club - but good for a few nights.

The Nirwana has a nice setting (and is quite remote) but it does not have a usable beach. The resort is built on a rocky cliff with the huge waves in the sea. Since I dont get to visit Hawaii often, I find this resort a good alternative at a fraction of the price but with a more exotic atmosphere.

The Laguna is definitely more luxurious and has a beach; but as many has said before it could be anywhere in the world. There are also more dining options here with a small mall nearby (and also several resorts along the Nusa Dua beach including The Westin next door)

Personally I like the Nirwana best, but then the I am the sort of guest who check-into a resort and not leave the resort gate till its time to go home ..

if you need any more ideas

just keep asking.

but get a lonely planet guide - or do some serious net surfing - there are a raft of wonderful spots in Bali - its not called the Island of the Gods for a reason.

its paradise.

I own a condo at Tangjung Benoa that that side of the island is stunning - if you want to surf - kuta beach is the best beach - maybe the Oberoi at Seminyak - but there are lots of accomodation choices.

Bali 4 Week

I vote for diversify; but, I am the type of traveller that avoids western style properties like the plague

Bali is synonomous with Villas. I would suggest for the same or lesser cost than your current property, to consider: The Ahimsa properties. The Estate has a great location for the nightlife scene; and, the Ahimsa or Jimbaran Bay properties are excellent as well.

Many choices, I personally have a Seminyak villa; but, I think you will better enjoy the proximity to Kuta subject to your nightlife remarks. A little closer of a crawl
