We will be in Beijing next week for five nights; would welcome any restaurant recommendations. Thanks,

Chinese home cooking
Xiaowang's Home Restaurant, tel 6591-3255. All the GE executives dine there for lunch and the menu is extensive enough to eat there for several days and never order the same thing.

My guys from Taiwan office rave about it...closest thing to home cooking at very very reasonable price. No MSG upon request, great Peking duck made on site. Near Kerry Center - go to the Guanghualu Branch (not the Sanlitun branch)....

Italian (?) in case you want change of pace
Gisa
Cha Yang Park West Gate
Tel: 6594-0938

i agree with this. the cbd location (a bit tough to find for first-timers; in a hutong between kerry and trader's) is one of the select few chinese restaurants in china that i actually like. in fact, i've brought several fters there. aside from the nice food, it is clean, and boasts a much better atmosphere than any of the famous duck places. note: it is not a duck restaurant (home style cooking), but their duck is quite good.
