Bangkok seafood buffets??
Having read many a thread on these great boards. I am still not certain which seafood buffets are the best.
Below is the information I have gathered but I would appreciate your comments and other suggestions.
The Oriental hotel at "Lord Jim's" resto is supposed to have a huge seafood lunch buffet for 1000B, does it exist for dinner? Price? Comments?
Also at the Oriental hotel the "Riverside Terrace" resto is supposed to have a great BBQ dinner buffet with lots of grilled seafood choices. Comments?
The Shangri-La hotel is supposed to also have a huge seafood spread for dinner at its "Next 2 cafe & terrace" resto. Comments?
Oishi Grand Japanese buffet is there lots of seafood dishes here?
Thanks folks!

If you want a buffet with a difference try the 'seafood market' restaurant in BKK. It is an amazing experience where you take a shopping cart and pick fresh seafood and sides out yourself take it to the checkout and they come to your table and ask how you would like it cooked. I have lost the details but have asked on three occasions to BKK for seafood market with this description and the cab has always found the right place. The locals say its expensive but for two we spent around $70 and had mud crab whole fish prawns and alcohol plus sides and could not eat everything. Fantstic venue for seafood with a twist.

I second the Seafood market
Nothing else like it in the world. Went for the first time last week and it had VER fresh seafood. I recommend the "rock lobster" in cheese sauce. I spent about 4000 Baht for 3 people including cooking charge and beer.
The address is 89 Sukhumvit Soi 24 (kasame), BKK.

Thank you!
Thank you Bogey and Party boy for your replies. I had read a few positive reviews about the seafood market resto. The sign says something along the lines "if it swims we have it"... If one see's this sign your at the correct place, some taxi's have beeb bringing clients to another seafood restaurant nearby...
We will be trying this resto, its on my list. But I am especially requesting recommendations for all u can eat seafood buffets.
Anyone else want to chime in with other suggestions or feedback for the places I have listed? Sure would be appreciated! Thanks

Most 5 star hotels all have great buffet, with large seafood selection. But at the end of the day, it is a buffet, which means pre-done and "mass market". The Seaford Market referred by other posters is reasonable price for visitors, you can get everything customized cook, etc.
Downside is with small group, you can't order everything. With buffet, since already prepared, you select a little of everything....
Try them both and post your experience

While I was in Cambodia, we visited the Thai/Cambodian border, I believe it was Poipet? But there was a casino that we stayed at and they had a buffet that was really good. Sorry I couldnt recall any other details.

I read in the Bangkok Post that the Asia Hotel has a seafood buffet also for around 800B. The promotion says bring 4 people pay for 3 or something. I can't vouch for the buffet.

I've had the seafood lunch buffet at Lord Jim's. It was great. Though I'm sure it is expensive for most Thais, it felt like a bargain to me. I think it was something like THB 900 or THB 1000 per person.
In addition to a raw bar, there's a sushi bar with made to order maki and nigiri. There's a huge warm seafood station. There's also a very nice dessert presentation. Service, as you would expect is warm and gracious.
When making a reservation, request a window table.

Thanks francophile!
Thank you francophile for your feedback about Lord Jim's, sounds like a winner to me! Do you recall the times for this lunch buffet? I would have preferred it for dinner but if its only offered at lunch we will be sure not to miss this one! Also your tip about a window seat is much appreciated!

Would anyone care to elaborate as to what they have in the LOBSTER department. Spiny, rock, just tails, or whole, size, different ways of cooking etc. for the Seafood buffets at the mentioned restaurants above. Does the Peninsula offer anything in comparrison?

5 star hotel, great seafood buffet, Lord's Jim
I've tried many place, expensive and cheap. But I have to admit that meal at the Lord's Jim is the best seafood buffet in the city.
Don't eat beakfast and go for lunch, or have a small lunch and go for dinner

So if I assume correctly, from the thoughts above.... Lord Jim's would have the same seafood buffet for dinner?? I don't eat much but my appetite is somewhat better for dinner and the fact that I like to accompany my meal with wine, which I find is more suitable at dinner time. Otherwise a little after lunch nap may be required! ha!
