Recommendations for Xinzhuang District, Taipei

[Mod. note: this discussion was spilt off from the Hyatt Place New Taipei City Xinzhuang (Taiwan) thread]

For this who wanna explore the area for a stroll or jog, the nearby canal is an option:

This is the mrt station about 8-10 mins walk from the hotel. Taking the airport express mrt is one stop to taipei station...literally like 10 mins ride with a great view. The station also has luggage checkin services.

Is this behind the hotel? I had no idea there was a canal nearby.

dreamcast18's picture above seems to have been taken where the pin is at the bottom of this screenshot, a bit less than 1km on foot.

(The clue was the 22:02 restaurant sign on the left)

That's a good eye. Mrs. Majuki and I like the location, despite the distance to the MRT with luggage. (Knowing that there's a shuttle bus is helpful, however.)

The nearby mall has some good restaurants, and there's a small night market we visited a few times near the MRT station.

if you don't mind "hole-in-the-wall" places..there are two we discovered recently which we will go back to.

This is a braised goose place near the canal:

This place is a 5 mins walk from the Hyatt in a back alley...boss chef was great explaining how to savour his beef noodles.

One of the best beef noodles in a surprising hole in the wall place. The Mala version was superb too. Deserves the 4.8 rating..zero foreign tourists.

We'll try some of these out the next time at at the hotel. However, as a 老外 with an ARC, where does that place me? I'm a foreigner but not a tourist.

Wow, all these restaurant recommendations is making me rethink my opinion of this location! I always thought there wasn't anything to do around the hotel, but I'm looking forward to trying these restaurants.

Yes..the area is pretty lacking vs say Da'an; but with exploration...finding some gems for sure; esp the backstreets hole in the walls.

That said..there's not a real lounge at this Hyatt other than the area between Louisa and the restaurant; so we found this charming cafe nearby for the afternoon:

I will continue to post my exploration around this area if it helps folks decide. I will be back again end of the month. Free parking, nice modern room is winning me over.

Ok here's one place i went with high expectations but won't be back again:

Cow杯居酒屋
https://maps.app.goo.gl/yDUrTayx7MZ29wgo8

love the name of the place and the owner was super friendly..but the food unfortunately didn't match the rating..price was on the high side too. Won't go back unless I want their home made plum wine. Skip the food.

Not within walking distance but about 5-10 mins ride.

Ikea - have not been to one in almost a decade..didn't know they have durian desserts and crawfish now. Meatballs still as good.

The perk? great riverview and cheap good food!
