Newb needs help - Internal flights HCMC/HAN/REP

Hello all!

Former lurker of this site, now officially a member. I've looked through the forum to make sure there wasn't a previous thread re: this topic and didn't find one. If I missed it, feel free to send over.

Husband and I will be traveling to Vietnam and Cambodia the week of thanksgiving, into first week of December. I am having a difficult time figuring out when and at what price point to book our internal flights between countries. Current plan is to travel from SGN/HAN OW ticket, HAN/REP OW ticket. Would prefer to book on VN; currently this fare, for the dates we intend to travel, is priced at $240 p/p. Is that reasonable? Should I wait longer to see if prices drop? From what I gather, we'll be there at what is considered the beginning of high season.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Which dates? I'm seeing prices at 3 million dong for nearly every day from SGN to HAN.

Are you saying SGN -> HAN -> REP is $240? That averages to $120 per flight. Sounds reasonable to me.

One recommendation - if you can't book tickets with VN, then avoid using Jetstar.

You should not forget Vietjet - in my opinion just as good as VN (it's just an LCC), and when you book early you can usually get those good promo fares. All domestic carriers in Vietnam do change schedules from time to time - keep flexible/no tight connections!

HAN/REP is not a cheap flight, often $200 for that leg alone. If you're getting SGN/HAN and HAN/REP for $240, that sounds pretty average to me. SGN/HAN though can often be booked for $25-$50, depending on date, time etc. if you want to book it separate. I agree VN is superior to Vietjet, but Vietjet I fly once in awhile, and Jetstar I don't fly. Remember also not to just rely on an aggregator, as the VN promo fares don't always show up, so check the VN website directly (imo). Early morning flights are more likely to be on time than later in the day.

Yes, I would also expect the OP to be able to find more reasonable fares with Vietjet (VN). Flights between SGN and HAN are dirt cheap. I have no knowledge of fligts to REP.

There is no reason to buy tickets now for travel in early December. Wait until 1-2 months prior to travelling.

Thank you to everyone that has responded. Very appreciated.

Travel would be OW SGN/HAN on 11/28, we'll be taking a 3 day cruise of Bai Tu Long Bay, then OW HAN/REP on 12/2. The $240 pricing is directly from VN's site, not a 3rd party. I've found that if I price these as individual flights, the cost skyrockets. This is the most decent fare I've discovered so far for both legs.

VJ does seems to have better deals, but considering we have somewhat of a tight schedule, I'd like to stick with an airline that is less likely to cancel flights. VN also includes baggage in their cost, which is ideal. The less loose ends we have to deal with, the better, imo.
