We're fairly experienced travelers, so this request is almost a bit embarrassing. But, this trip is a little more complicated than we've done in the past.

We're looking to go to Vietnam with 3 passengers total for the first two weeks in March 2016. The issue is that we want to travel in business class (or, at least economy premium or the like) on the long haul segments, but sometimes it doesn't add much more to do business on the hop from DFW to the west coast. So, I'm trying to find the best flights and cost and each segment could be on a different carrier.

I'm not looking for specific itinerary set up, but rather, is there a resource that would be best to try and put this all together? This is the first time in nearly 20 years that I've thought a travel agent might actually be worthwhile. Any starter advice?

More familiar with Little Saigon in Fort Worth, but I'm sure there is an equivalent in Big D.

I would suggest using a Vietnamese TA as they may have access to consolidator fares that will beat the pants off anything you can find. Or not.

Long time ago I used a Taiwanese TA in Houston to book an EVA flight (Taiwanese carrier) and to this day I'm convinced that I got better seats in Economy Plus (which is MUCH cheaper than Biz). Flew on CO (now UA) to from LAX on same ticket, but NONE of US carriers have PE

We did DFW-Seoul-SGN last year, I'm not a fan of Korean after that trip (had to beg for water, even in business! and they took water bottles away at boarding gates- bottles bought after security!) but it is only one connection, which is why I booked it originally.

FYI Their taking your water bottle after security (on your way back to the US presumably) is a USA-DHS-TSA mandated measure, so no matter which airline you booked, it would've happened... not KE's fault.

Your onboard service, however, sounds like it was lacking, which is a surprise to me.

Nope, they took it DFW-ICN, ICN-SGN, SGN-ICN. I smartened up on the way back to the US and hid some in the small of my back under my backpack.

The on board service was very much lacking. And I have not ever been forced to throw out unopened bottles of water (purchased after security) flying back into the US. Maybe I've gotten lucky, but odd that only KE has done this to me, and on non-US flights.

Wasn't just the water either- on my return flight, they cancelled my original flight, and I had to fly home a day early, but that meant going in economy but I had to get back to work. When they got to my row for food choices the 'chicken' option was gone, so I asked for the Bimibap (sp?) I'd had it before, and the other option was fish, which I don't eat. The FA said "no you won't like Bimibap, have the fish" "No, I don't like fish, I'd like the Bimibap please" "Here's the fish, you'll like it better"
I make my way to the restroom later (after not eating my fish) and see the same FA eating the Bimibap... KE is out for me!

My favorite carrier is Asiana of Korea for Vietnam travel. I've used Asiana for 6 trips and EVA for 1 trip - Asiana wins for more comfort and service. Remember that VN has more international airports than just SGN. You might consider an open jaw into SGN and out of DAD or HAN. I'll be there at the very same time, except that I'm spending most of my time in my favorite city - Hanoi. I'm flying Asiana economy and I've paid $736. roundtrip from Seattle (Asiana gives me a hotel room on my return because my transit time in Seoul exceeds 8 hours). I've never traveled on a more pleasant airline!

(only major problem with Asiana is their website - I book on Orbitz or Priceline)

I like JL for the schedule, especially now that they retimed their SGN-NRT flight to be able to catch most of the AA flights back to the US without a long layover (US-NRT-SGN has always been a short layover). They also have a second SGN-HND flight, should anyone want to stopover in Tokyo.
