Train from Hanoi to Hoi An?

Hi,

Considering the overnight train from Hanoi or Halong Bay to Hoi An.

Anyone ever done this train trip? What is it like? How are the luxury sleeper cars?

Should we just fly instead?

Thanks.

Just fly from Hanoi to Danang then get car or taxi down to Hoi An. With your pinched time frame, forget about overland methods.

Thanks. Thinking was since train was going to be running overnight we would be using otherwise wasted time anyway.

Please, on this your honeymoon, I beseech you do not use this phrase "otherwise wasted time" to refer to the overnight hours, particularly if your new wife is within earshot.

Ha! I clearly misspoke - perhaps I should have made the thread be about the support structure of the beds on overnight trains from Hanoi to Hoi An? :P

Even newlyweds still need to sleep sometime.

I don't think "If the train's a-rockin', don't come a-knockin'" translates quite well into Vietnamese

Agreed that you should just take a quick cheap flight from HAN to DAD. Had an aunt who took the train just to "experience it..." arrived 26 hours later, after delays due to rain. I didn't even have to bother with an "I told you so."
