I've never been to Bali or Indonesia period so I don't know what to make of safety and security in Bali and specifically in Nusa Dua. Curious to hear any thoughts and whether there's any reason to be have a higher level of concern for Bali than for Thailand or other areas in the region.
I was in Bali for more than 3 weeks last month. I never felt any sort of security concerns the whole time. The first time I went to Bali was the day they exploded a bomb in front the Jakarta Aussie embassy more than a decade ago. No problems then, either.

As someone who lives in Indonesia at least 6 months a year, it's actually pretty safe.

The biggest threat to your vacation plans in Bali is volcanic ash.

I think maybe you should be far more worried about being murdered in Dallas. Truthfully.

Too much information to have it here. You'd be better check TripAdvisor forums and reviews of certain attractions/restaurants there. Law of large numbers is applicable here - if 2000 people saying that some place is good, they all can't be wrong, but I'd recommend to read more carefully negative reviews to find out if they have some merits.

I think nothing should be worried about going to Bali or Jakarta. Having a serious traffic accident or getting shot in the US probably is more likely than having involved in an incident like that in Bali or Jakarta.

You are probably more likely to be shot in the wrong neighborhood in the states than you are in a terrorist act in Indonesia. I have tickets for March and I plan on going.
