Vegetarian places are popping up in some unexpected places in the whole Southern Cone. Rio now has about four decent places, including two that are vegan. One, Vegan Vegan even has vegan Feijoada, proving that anything at all is possible. I actually quite like it. I tried two such options in BA and liked them both. SCL has some also, so serious vegans can visit much of the region and remain in compliance.

They are not. Generally no animal products/byproducts at all, sometimes including even honey (from bees) and cane sugar (apparently processing involves bones somehow) depending on how strict they are.

Well I think I will try "cocina vegetariana" there as I visit next week. So any recommendations? I will have sme help visitng Taiwanese friend there who does not eat meat (but I do, but try many different things as possible). Also any suggestions on shop/market for ites I will try bring back such snacks and wine back to Taiwan (seems Argentine wine is becomming trendy in Taiwan these days), but passing via Los Angels maybe a problem with customs/tax (into Taiwan they almost never check for wine even though the offical limit is one bottle)

Regarding wine, dont worry about customs and tax at US points of entry.... unless you have 5 cases of wine, they will not even look - just make sure to declare every single bottle of wine and you will be OK.

The most typical Argentina snack would be Alfajores.... this is a chocolate and dulce de leche intensive candy-bar type thing... will be a hit if your friends back home are sweet-tooth kinda' people....

If you are serious about wine, please PM me and I can further assist you.
