BA Odds & Ends...Honeymoon Trip
Let me, first, apologize for, not only, the length of this post, but the fact that I have not done the obligatory sifting through this thread for questions that have likely been asked and answered. With the devil of final details and plans leading up to a wedding (this Saturday) and honeymoon (depart Sunday), I just don't have the time. I'll admit it's poor form...and hope that the regular contributors to this thread will indulge me.
Although the concierge at the Park Tower has been tremendously helpful with things like domestic air and transfers, she has been decidedly less helpful when it comes to things like restaurant recommendations and "what to do". I've been to BA several times, but never as a tourist. And my last time there was over five years ago.
We're in BA for four nights, arriving Friday afternoon, Nov. 25th (our first four nights are at a wine spa in Cafayate operated by *wood). I could really use some help as relates to the following:
1) Restaurants. I know that we'd like at least one, maybe two "high end" dinners, as well as some recommendations re: local/non-tourist spots.
2) Teatro Colon. We were planning on attending a performance on the 25th...at least until the concierge told us about the strike. Any update here is greatly appreciated.
3) "Must sees". We'll do the Sunday flea market in San Telmo, as well as walks through La Boca and Recoleta. We're also planning on taking the ferry to Colonia on Monday. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.
4) Currency. It's been since pre-9/11 since I've been out of the country. Prior to that, I spent seven months out of every year, for five years, traveling abroad. I'm out of practice. So...in Argentina, do I take US dollars to spend, do I exchange US dollars, or do I simply use an ATM whenever/wherever I can?
That should about do it. Again, thanks for any help you can provide. My fiancee has never been to Argentina, and it's a place that I've always loved. We're really looking forward to the trip!

Ask the concierge to get u a copy of the Time Out magazine Buenos Aires. It's better than any guidebook and more up to date. Part of the fun of exploring the city is dicovering things (as opposed to making a list and running around). This publication will put you off to a good start. I'd also reccommend spending some time walking around Palermo for lunch and shopping. One place I really like is Malasartes Cafe on the corner of Honduras y Borges and Plaza Cortazar. They make a mean Carppacio (which last year cost a wopping $3.00). There are tons of places to eat in the area so u can't go wrong. I would also suggest going to the Bella Vista (sp) Art Museum. Its very close to the cemetary and is small enough to do quickly. For some reason seeing the paintings in this museum really helped me get a feel for the country. Oh yea, the ice cream is great there.
ATMs would be your best shot. I believe there are two in EZE so you can cash up on arrival.

The two restaurants that keep getting best review both personal and by city guides seem to be: Nectarine and Tomo 1.

Colon appears to be good to go for special events, but still no definate news on regular season performances.

Currency issues, you can use ATMs or else pay in US$ which are widely accepted. Credit cards are taken at many places, but check with some restaurants that only take cash, the above La Dorita is one example.

Opera at Teatro Colon - December - Capriccio
Sorry but there were several who wanted to visit an opera at previously closed Teatro Colon and at the last minute the strike was resovled and a new opera was substituted for Puccini's Turandot.
I provided the snynopsis of the new opera Capriccio, in case those who still want to go to the opera want to learn more about it. It was overkill, I agree. My apologies.
