Stayed with the crew in the Hilton hotel (highly recommended) and spent most of my 24 hour layover walking around the city and exploring.

As has been mentioned many times on this thread, the steaks in Argentina are "to die for". My favourite place was El Establo. One of the crew members I flew with told me about El Establo and I was never disappointed.

This thread has really got me thinking of going back down there in the very near future. I think that this is what I have been saving all those miles and Hilton points for.

See you down there.

Hi.. glad you enjoyed it down here. For the next time you come down, I would suggest you try some of the lodging options available in Palermo... now that you know the Puerto Madero area, I think it will be a nice change of pace/style and allow you to know another part of the city.

Will be making my first trip to Buenos Aires in Mid-November and planned to split my stay between Recoleta and Palermo (interrupted by a trip To Iguazu). Gaucho can you recommend lodging in Palermo? I have emailed both Casa Petit and Casa Concierge, neither of which will respond to my requests. Any suggestions? I was hoping for a location in Palermo Chico since my interests mainly are cultural, museums, galleries, architecture and the botanical gardens rather than the hottest club scene. I'm getting a little anxious about a place to stay.

Palermo Chico does not really offer lodging options... so perhaps you should consider some of the boutique hotel options in the rest of Palermo. Some places that get good reviews include:

- Bobo Hotel
- Five Cool Rooms
- Home Hotel
- Malabia House

Excellent boutique hotel, switched on staff, nice safe area, great Don Julio's parilla down the road, 10/15 min walk to Plaza Italia Subte. Lots of nice, eat, drink and shopping opportunities close by.

But book soon, they fill up quickly. If fact for November you will be lucky to get in the BoBo.

Palermo lodging

Thanks everybody for the recommendations. I know it's getting late but I'll see what's available.

You might also check out Posada Palermo, which is not far into the Palermo Viejo side of Palermo, and therefore a fairly close walk to things in Palermo Chico. Great place, I've had several friends stay there and they've all loved it.

Hey Gaucho, thanks for the advice. Next trip will be on my own time (ie not working with an airline) and therefore I will be able to choose where I stay and for how long.

Really looking forward to it.

Fly to Buenos Aires late December

Hello,

I've been planning on traveling to Buenos Aires for the New Year and I've been looking at flights from the NYC area since May and there has not been any real good deals.

I can also fly from the WAS. DC area as well. My travel is somewhat flexible from Dec 27-Jan 4. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks

Host Families/ Home Stays

Any information/advice on finding a host family to stay with in Buenos Aires? My travel buddy finds it a little sketchy (the whole home stay thing). But I think it would make for a better, more enjoyable visit. We've both never been.

Thanks!

A search of the thread

Turned up no mention of GOLF.

So, Gaucho, I need some advice on places that I will be able to chase a ball around a field. Flying in this February to catch a cruise ship, will have a couple days (Feb 26/27) at the end where I'll want to get in 18 in the morning and see the city in the afternoons

TIA

The Jockey Club, Los Olivos, Pilar and Martindale are the choices for entertaining usually. I don't know how access is unless with a member.

Maybe this will help:

Hi... where are you staying in town? If your hotel has a concierge desk, they will be able to arrange for access to various courses. Membership will not be an issue if you wish to play Monday-Friday, weekend access will be more complicated but if you are flexible with your budget for green fees, you will be OK.
