Breaking News.... local Buenos Aires courts have just issued two "stay orders" meaning that for now the eviction of LAN is on hold, at least until there is a firm ruling by the 1st instance Judge(s).

I don't know the ins and outs of LANs operations at AEP....like which services they contract out etc.
But we all know how much clout the unions have here so anything is possible. Until someone like Maggie Thatcher gets in power and sorts the useless sods out (like she did in the UK) then nowt much will change.

The Unions in this case are divided... the larger/stronger union is in disagreement with the Government, so in this specific instance most of the organized labor force is behind LAN.

This Recalde is a charming guy, it seems:

Argentina is such a depressing embarrassment.... ugh.

Does anyone foresee Cristina pulling something like this with the US carriers, particularly as Aerolneas is now boosting its presence in the US with its return to NYC? Or would that be a battle she chooses to avoid?

UA is discontinuing its EWR-EZE flights in October. Perhaps related?

Demand-related, as demand is way down. They will still be serving EZE via IAH. The route never got traction after moving from IAD.

I was speaking to the captain of last night's EZE-EWR about this (JFK-based). He said that it was quite understandable given that the EWR/EZE flight was always the one designated to be canceled/delayed when there were any problems with sUA763s at EWR/EZE. Hence the recent poor yield in B/F (although the yield in Y has been good and the fares high).

I guess it should be said that demand went down because the flight was so not-reliable... as SoFlyOn's post notes above. It would seem fair to conclude that it was UA that killed the demand.....

This seems likely, at least for now. AA's daily JFK-EZE-JFK seems packed (though perhaps this is seasonal?). Now, if they can just upgrade the aircraft themselves a bit.
