Dental work in BA??

Dental work in BA??
I was wondering if any of you locals would like to speculate as to whether the dental care in BA is up to standard and if it is less expensive than the same treatment in the US.
I need at least one root canal on a molar and one crown. Cost in the US is likely to be approaching $2000. I can get the same work done in Bangkok for less than half that price but I think Thailand is still under a travel advisory from the US Embassy. I will be in BA for a week in October anyway.

There is no need to speculate... dental work in Buenos Aires is without doubt up to similar standards to any OECD nation, and the pricing will be far more attractive.

Yes and yes! You won't get a crown done in one week though as it involves several visits to the dentist. I had a porcelain crown done a couple of years ago for a ridiculously low price compared to what I would have had to pay in the UK. If you want details of my dentist I'm happy to PM them to you - she's great and speaks English if your Spanish isn't up to speed

I have an excellent dentist but his office is in San Isidro, so the location is rather inconvenient. If the contact offered by Brit doesnt work out, let me know and I will put you in contact with Dr. Grassi.

As for standards......in the town where I stay it worries me that almost everyone I know would rather travel to Buenos Aires to see a dentist than consult one here.

My mother in law travelled to La Plata last week to see her dentist. She is having four implants and the total cost will be in the region of AR$18,000. I have no idea how that compares to other countries but it doesn't seem all that inexpensive to me.
As for standards......in the town where I stay it worries me that almost everyone I know would rather travel to Buenos Aires to see a dentist than consult one here.

You need a more modern dentist. I've had a root canal done, a mold taken, a temp (acrylic) crown put in all within the same visit. I think 2-3 hours at the most... 5-7 days later the replacement porcelain crown was available and got fitted in less than one hour.

We consulted a friend who's son is studying dentistry at Uni in La Plata and she reckons the cost is not far off the mark.
The guy has taken AR$8,000 off her already for getting the four teeth out and will accept the other half when she gets the implants done.
According to what I've read on the internet....for comparison purposes. In the UK expect to pay anything from 800 to 3000 for each implant so maybe this guys prices are okay.
I would hate to think she is being led up the garden path.
If I reach 75 I would happily settle for a set of dentures rather than the implants.

I've had a root canal and an implant done in www.implantar.com.ar (May 2005), the root canal took less than a week, so far so good
