Vinos De Lujo

We're going to be in Buenos Aires in early November and have been reading about the Vinos De Lujo wine tasting event at the Alvear Hotel. Is this something that's worth going to? Do we need to purchase tickets in advance, if so how? Thanks.

Yes... and at the same time, not really & it depends.

If you are somewhat serious about wine, you will find that these types of events are really not much more than teasers - where you can at best get some basic information on wines that will be of interest to you.

I say this because the format that is used for these events are unfit to properly taste wines. Not all folks attending get poured the same wines, pours are almost always marginal, glassware is sometimes less than optimal, service temperature of wines varies, etc. etc. etc.

Tickets are available close to the start of the show.... they sometimes have pre-sales but I dont remember if you can purchase them online... if you are staying at a full service hotel, I suggest you have the Concierge get these tickets for you.

Disclaimer: I am a member of the Wine Trade in Buenos Aires, so while I do know these events very well and should in theory understand proper wine-sevice, it must be understood that in a way I have a horse in this race and my views may be tainted by personal interests. Please keep this in mind when you read my above comments.

Ive been Googling around to see if the 2010 edition of this already has a web site up but am drawing only blanks, and plenty of stuff about last years (ie. 2009 edition) of this event... I will keep looking and report back with any information I can gather.

Cheers,

Still havent found the website to this event, but I have confirmation that it will be held November 01 to 05 and the venue will be once again the Alvear Palace.

Thanks, it's just one possibility on our too-long list of many things we want to do while we're in Buenos Aires.

Getting tickets the same day you wish to visit this expo should be no problem...
