Charging more for holiday travel with reward points

I have noticed that award tickets during holidays are higher, even when the price of the ticket in dollars has not increased. An agent confirmed she has noticed this trend. Seems pretty unfair, since they went to a revenue-based rewards program. If the ticket does not increase in price, why are they charging more in points? They are treating their loyal customers worse.

It's not just holidays. There is variable cents-per-point for redemptions all the time. If you look at the terms and conditions, the language obliquely admits to this.

Yeah it's clear Amtrak views AGR more as a liability rather than a marketing tool. I wish more revenue based programs did things like Delta with Pay With Miles, where you are guaranteed 1cpp.

I've never seen an AGR redemption for anywhere near as bad as 1cpp.

I agree, was thinking more of the structure rather than the rate.
