Forfeited points?

How can points be forfeited? Does that mean they expire? I had this snafu with my amex payment online and i went on the website to browse and found that i had 501 points forfeited. I'm not going to pay $29.00 for $5 worth of value in points, but I was wondering if AMEX does this sort of thing like "expiration" points or other things like that.

i guess i have to make a call to CSR again!

thanks,

No, As somone else has already posted, you pay late with Amex you lose the points. Amex has lawyers running amok figuring out how to turn the screw on customers. Amex does not seem to understand that the customer is what is important. Amex actually sent me a notice that if my Amex card was overdue they reserved the right to take the money from the funds I had invested with American Express Financial Advisors. [Which would have had tax implications if it every came to that.] That was the last straw for my Amex New Dimensions Fund and I closed the account. The FHR rates on Amex Platinum are OK and used to be better, but the only real reason I keep my Amex Platinum card is the access to Delta, Northwest, and Continental Airline Lounges. I try to use my Amex cards as little as possible. At least Diners Club aka Citibank understands the meaning of Customer Service.

If the payment snafu was due to a mistake on Amex's part, insist on having them reinstate the forfeited points at no charge. I've had this happen before.
