The United gift registry has been discontinued.

Reminder: you must enroll and select UA as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. Unless you check your bags or experience change fees, United has the fewest options for reimbursement because of the codes they use for transactions.

United does not sell giftcards. As of December 2016 American Express no longer reimburses MPX transactions.

Airline Taxes on Award Tickets
Doesn't seem to work anymore; see post 179 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/25297196-post179.html and #391
Economy Plus and First Class Upgrade Fees
As of December 2016 there were conflicting posts; one stating that an upgrade to E+ coded as an "upgrade fee" and was, therefore, not reimbursed. Others said they were reimbursed as it was coded as "preferred seat upgrade." In February 2019, three separate FTer reported receiving varying amounts of reimbursement (dependent upon which card was used for the purchase) after purchasing an E+ annual subscription. The E+ subscriptions code as "preferred seat upgrade". Upgrading from E to FC will also not be reimbursed because it codes as a passenger ticket even when done after buying the original ticket. There seems to be a distinction between seat upgrades being reimbursed, while ticket upgrades are not.
Award Accelerator
I would not risk this. The last report of being reimbursed for Award Accelerator was for $68 on October 27, 2011. Every post about Award Accelerator since has reported "No reimbursement."
Eligible incidental fees include:
  • Checked baggage fees (including overweight/oversize)
  • Itinerary change fees
  • Phone reservation fees
  • Pet flight fees
  • Seat assignment fees (E+)
  • In-flight amenity fees (beverages, food, pillows/blankets, headphones)
  • In-flight entertainment fees (excluding wireless internet because it's not charged by the airline)
  • Airport lounge day passes & annual memberships
  • Onboard WIFI

Their loss. My Amex credits went to AS and DL. As a free agent with perhaps a slight bias towards UA due to MM status I don’t really have a problem using the credits elsewhere if they can’t get their act together with the gift registry or gift cards.

I've read through pages of recent comments on this thread. I have $100 Amex gold personal card travel credit to use up.
Flying UA in March 2019 on award tickets.

Before I pay for upgrades from economy to plus, I want to double check that folks are indeed getting credit for the upgrades and that they post within a few days.

Thanks~

You read the thread, so you presumably saw this most recent confirmation?

Have people booked award tickets and paid for the taxes with the AMEX and gotten reimbursed for that? If so, whats stopping someone from getting an award ticket and then canceling later?

The wiki at the top of the page seems to indicate that taxes on award tickets are no longer being reimbursed.

Ok, so we just got back home and it appears that my wife's Aspire card did NOT get the United credit.

HOWEVER, we had to go through a travel agent so I'm very sure that is guaranteed to be why it didn't post so don't count my information as much of a data point but I just wanted to report back since I had several people helping out. Now to pray that Amex will switch the airline for us so close to the end of the year so we can buy some gift cards.

Yes. I got credit for this just two weeks ago. A whopping $5.60 on a domestic ticket.

Nothing. This is true of virtually all the reimbursable expenses.

Purchased a ticket (one way) ORD to DEN for January. On the app, I have the option to upgrade to E+ or First. E+ is $93/person and First is $149/person.

if I understand correctly, an upgrade to E+ is covered by my $200 credit but First is not??

That's correct, at least in my personal experience.

Any ideas to spend $99 before the year is up??!?!!? No trips left for me...

I was contemplating renewing my United Club, but I won't need it until March, so the extra 3 months of membership is worth more than $99 to me. (It's lapsed since summer anyway, so I'm already on the hook for the initiation fee).

I can buy around 2,000 miles--while a horrible use, it's better than letting it go to waste. I can also transfer my non-status daughter's miles to my account (5000) for around $100--making the miles "1K miles" versus "general member miles".

If I buy a UC day pass, I think I can apply that to a membership later, but I think it's got to be applied within 30 days, right? And still leaves me some $ on the table.

Any help, oh Amex/UA gurus?!?!?!?
