While I'm excited about the transfer bonus too, BA redemptions to the UK are usually pretty terrible because of the massive fuel surcharges tacked on to the bill.

I moved my husband's points. Still considering whether there is another use for mine. I like the BA family account. And I like to use Avios on short haul partner flights around the world including coach AS and AA in the US. This brings the value of MR to Avios back to a reasonable level. A lot of movement of MR points requires multiples of 1K. This is the first time I noticed that multiples of 250 MR points could be moved.

When the transfer rate was changed from 1000:1000 it was expressed as 250:200 rather than 1000:800. This is consistent with the way JetBlue, Virgin America and of course Iberia are set up.

Do you mean Nov/Dec 2016 or 2017? If you mean 2017 you are correct you will need to transfer on speculation or gamble on another offer.

There are some requirements, including (I think) that both the BA and IB account be open for 90 days before a transfer. Read here (which is primarily about the transfer in the opposite direction):

Ugh, in the old days, this would have been a total no brainer for me. But, with the relative devaluation of the BA short haul awards in the US, I'm not sure if it makes sense to transfer the points in speculatively without a specific redemption in mind. I'll be in Asia in December, but have already booked the only leg of my trip that works with BA miles. Are the wise folks here taking advantage of this just to pad their BA accounts, or only if you happen to have a specific redemption ready to go? Thanks!
