Hello FT, couldnt find any help in the real world so some people told me to come here!

After spending some large amounts of $$ in ER bills and other unfortunate medical bills and life expenses, it has set me back quite a bit. I paid off my Amex Plat balance however, I have a 95% utilization rate for 2 months now with all my Chase cards (includes all 4 of them). I am cleared to go back to work in about 3 weeks so I will be earning some $$ again, but will probably take me 3-4 months to bring it down to around 20% utilization (am probably low balling it).

I only have 5 cards (the Plat charge and 4 Chase credit cards). I've had a 700 ish cred score for 7+ years and always payed my bills in full (except for in 2004 when I had another medical emergency). I've never missed a due date in history. I have not received calls/letters from amex or chase about my utilization rate yet.

I hope I am in good standing with Amex being a charge card in which I pay in full and always in time (had it for 1 year). But does anyone think Amex will close my Plat account because of my utilization rate? I know this is a membership rewards forum but will any of my Chase cards get closed as well?

thanks whoever responds!

Welcome to Flyertalk.

Have you looked at your credit reports to see how Chase is reporting the credit limit and balance for each account? If they do not report the limit other card issuers will not be able to see the utilization the same way that you do.

I haven't yet! But thanks for the input. I was thinking of opening another card to increase utilization ratio but I will check my report first. I'll get back to this forum when I do. Thanks mia.

Oh another question before I make a credit pull, I move a lot (different states) and therefore change address on all 5 cards when I move. What address do I enter to pull a credit report? My original address (multiple original addresses) when I applied for the cards or my current one?

Use your current address when requesting credit reports. If you have moved recently it may also ask about previous addresses. This is the government mandated site which provides free reports with no strings:

Yes, the equifax and experian both report the limits. Equifax even reports a 96% debt to credit ratio for my revolving accounts. Dang, I calculated wrong by 1%, ouch.

I'm shooting from the hip here, but if Amex is getting paid on time, you're probably in good shape. If you have the income to support the debt, even better. In the middle of last year, my wife and I both took some time off of work for the birth of our first daughter. Between that and the new baby expenses, we racked up some significant debt. If anything, I increased a few lines in the time since and did a mini-AOR (including Amex Plat). 96% utilization is one thing, but what does that look like compared to your annual income?

Amex closed my prg account back in 2009 for a brief time. I had been late on some other accounts but never with them. After a brief call and chat with the supervisor they reopened it and then sent an apology letter. They did set a firm limit of 15k, which they removed 12 months later.

Well right now it's zero, but they don't know that, and it doesn't matter right? It will be an above avg income when I start working again.

Do you (or anyone) think I should transfer my points now, just incase?
