Reminder: you must enroll and select Southwest as your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase.
Some have suggested the need to wait several hours or even a day before making the purchase, but there are also several DPs that worked without waiting that long.

(BTW, you will often hear people refer to Southwest as WN. WN is the IATA code for Southwest Airlines. SW is the IATA code for Air Namibia.)

Caution: As of late July 2019, reports are that direct gift card purchases are no longer being reimbursed.
To purchase click here: https://www.southwest.com/gift-card/create-card.html Caution: Do NOT login to your Southwest Rapid Rewards account when making the purchase.

What does appear to work is buying flight tickets less than $100, OR using gift cards to get the charged amount down to less than $100.

Always read the last few pages to get up-to-date DPs.

Data Point -- Credit is hitting for charges on WN made same-day as airline selection. Note purchases were made after the automated "You're ready for your $xxx Airline Fee Credit Benefit" email. Not sure if timing re:the email is relevant.

Purchased 3 separate flights on SW Dec 13; $58.98, $87.98 and $87.98. Cancelled all flights next day for funds for future use. Neddle moved Dec 18 and credits posted Dec 19th. Booked a separate flight and added early bird to amex aspire as well. Will see if that eats the remaining of the $250.

If I book something on southwest, does it still tag as a credit in Amex Platinum?

12/13: Purchased one way ticket BWI to MCO for $98.98 ($78.77 + $20.21 for fees and taxes)

12/17: Received AMEX credit for $98.98

Lesson Learned. I'm disappointed that I did not react earlier in the year so I could have processed a gift card in order to receive the credit. Knowing that reimbursement for flights could easily disappear at any time, I plan to react right away at the turn of 2020 to lock into that year's flight credit.

What are you referring to exactly? All of us talking on this thread are making purchases via southwest.com.

Yes, I meant booking stuff on southwest.com. Does it still work for amex to code as part of the $200 airline credit?

You can buy Earlybird and tickets that cost under $100. No gift cards.

This doesn't seem to be working for my Gold card. Here's my timetable:

12/01: Set my airline to Southwest
12/01: Purchased a $98.98 ticket on the SW website
12/15: Purchased a $78.98 ticket on the SW website

Neither purchase has been reimbursed yet.

Since every post on this page is about people getting the credit in the recent past, I assume you mean is it still working at this very minute?? That would be hard to answer without actually trying it I guess.

I'm guessing he's a new poster who didn't scroll back to check recent data points.

He first posted here on the 11th. He would have seen plenty of data points since then. There are 2 in the hour right above his new post.
