"Expanded Award Seating Availability (from Executive Platinum Guide)

As an AAdvantage Executive Platinum member, you have exclusive access to additional MileSAAver® award seating availability through AAdvantage Reservations for travel on American Airlines, American Eagle and AmericanConnection flights for you and one companion (must travel with you on the same itinerary - JD). While this is not a guarantee of available seating, it does provide more flexibility when you are traveling on a MileSAAver award."

NOTE: This expanded EXP availability is not guaranteed and may vary on different flights. It is not available during peak travel periods. In recent years this benefit appears diminished.

Indeed, although still advertised as an EXP benefit using the same verbiage from when I first made EXP 13 years ago! (when you could actually count on this published benefit)

Today I learned that BA Golds also have expanded award availability. Except BA actually has a separate fare class (V) for expanded award space, versus the phantom AA expanded T. Wouldn't that be nice? Another pipe dream.

Closer to home, UA has several different expanded award and upgrade space buckets for their elites and (unofficially) their credit card holders. XN is saver Y space available to all elites and (unofficially) credit card holders. IN is saver J space available to 75k elites and above. PN is Y-J upgrade space for GS members.

Not sure if DL has a similar thing, as I don't pay any attention to Skyteam.

Are there any clues what fare buckets "extra EXP availability" would come from?

A long time ago AA elite flyers used to have access to that extra BA Y inventory.

It's the same fare classes for awards and upgrades that you're used to, just more if you're EXP. I believe the extra availability exists in some small way, but I've never seen it.

Exec Plat extra Award Availability

This is such a mystery benefit - it says one has to call the EXP desk. Has anyone every gotten saver awards that were not available online? I had called a few times to ask if they saw availability I did not see. Never had any luck - or does one have to tell them specifically to do something?
Also, I read this as in applicable to EXP+one guest - but it wouldn't apply to a ticket I'd get just for my wife for example?

Anyone have positive experiences with this "benefit"?

The agent should search with your EXP number entered into her computer (if the IVR system hasn't already autopopulated it), and any "extra" award availability will show up. No other special steps need to be taken.

That said, the extent to which this "extra" availability is on offer is likely quite small and not worth your repeated effort in trying to locate it over the phone.

See this well discussed thread:

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...xp-merged.html

In my experience as a 13+ year EXP, this used to be a real benefit one could count on from time to time, but I haven’t seen any expanded availability in a couple of years despite it still being a published EXP benefit.

Exec platinum expanded award seat (data point?)

https://www.aa.com/i18n/aadvantage-p...s-benefits.jsp

it states that

Expanded award seating availability
Executive Platinum members and 1 companion have exclusive access to additional MileSAAver award seating on American Airlines and American Eagle flights. While this is not a guarantee of available seating, it does provide more flexibility when you are traveling on a MileSAAver award. Please call the Executive Platinum service desk to access this benefit.

Is there any data point? How do we know if they actually exist.

Is it new? I never knew about it until a few days ago.
