AA Basic Economy Cancellation fees vs WN fares

I fly in and connect in Dallas mostly , and so have mostly used WN ( Southwest ) for my bookings. Have very rarely booked AA. Because I travel for business, my plans change last minute and so with WN's fares, I can buy multiple basic tickets every week and if I need to cancel , I simply cancel and then the funds can be used later within 6 mon or 1 yr. Normally, when I fly AA, I take the extra room or first class seat. But was looking into the basic economy option as I am flying every week atleast once or twice and I need maximum flexibility. Didnt know that AA has a cancellation fee of $100. That kind of defeats the purpose Is that still the case ? Also, AA website doesnt make it particularly easy to find the info. And the AA app is probably the worst of the 4 big 4 US airlines - slow and buggy.

Basic Economy is not designed to allow flexibility. The fact that AA allows canceling BE for a $100 fee actually is a benefit.

No one here will disagree with you that AA IT sucks hard.

AA BE fare cancellation fees are listed on this page -- https://www.aa.com/i18n/customer-ser....jsp#ticketing
They range from $99 to $199 which is similar to what DL charges. Although DL's fees are either $99 for domestic/Canada or $199 for international (they don't have a $129 fee level). Note that you are required to be an AAdvantage member to qualify (although you don't need any form of status). UA is even worse about BE cancel fee disclosure and fees and they range from $149 for domestic to $249 for international. As far as I'm aware, the only place UA discloses these are in the fare rules (in Penalties section) after you have selected flights.

Thanks for the info. Just makes AA a less compelling option than WN Southwest. If you are cancelling and rescheduling quite a few times a month, it adds up real fast. And agree on the AA app - so buggy and slow and the monotone color makes it tough to use. Its just that AA has cornered the DFW market with no other option there as AA is probably 75% of the market share as Delta aslso pulled back there and so you really have no other options from DFW unless you fly WN out of DAL. For one of the better international airports in the country in DFW , its kind of frustrating that you are stuck with AA. And cant imagine they are pumping in $4 billion for DFW for just one Terminal F. 4 Billion as in a B !! Honestly , Don't know what they are doing for $4b, that's not chump change.
