AAdvantage points redemption

Got an economy (X) one way ticket BOM-DOH-LAX on Qatar airways and put it on hold for 40k + $56 tax. Is that a good deal?

sorry haven’t redeemed AA points in a while and wanted to make sure this is a good deal.

Redemptions involving most partner carriers (including QR) are fixed price, and AA does not collect carrier surcharges for redemptions on QR; so that's as good as it's going to get for that itinerary. Whether it's a "good deal" depends on whether you can get BOM-XXX-LAX for less through a different FFP, and what a cash ticket would cost.

Assuming you don't mind the economy seats for that long of a flight, yes, it is an excellent deal. For that distance, I would be trying my best to get to at least PE, but absolutely worth it!

With timing being everything its hard to say but the baseline for J is 70k miles, depending on how much you value miles, I'd say there are better redemptions. A 180% increase in miles yields a 350% higher retailed proce product. Also DEL has much more flight availability and intra-india flights are not expensive but the baggage might be a concern.

Note that QR does not offer Premium Economy. That leaves BA via LON (with high carrier surcharges), or CX via HKG (pretty hard to find premium-cabin awards to or from the U.S. on CX with AAdvantage miles).

I ended up getting the Eco(x) seat with 40k miles and change. I then went to Qatar air website with confirmation and found that I can select the extra legroom seats for FREE. They were marked $179 for DOH-LAX leg and $85 for BOM-DOH leg. So I immediately picked the seats with ELR..so looks like I really got a good deal. Prices have doubled when I checked this morning.
