CrowdStrike update and Systemwide IT issues on AA

I'm on AA1280 PHX-JFK when they had us deplane because of an IT issue that the gate agents told us is affecting the entire AA system. Looks like a long night ahead.

It's AA/UA/DL/G4, so far. Seems like the biggest ground stop since 9/11. Earlier F9 was included.

Most likely related to Microsoft cloud issues….Reuter article

Edit: Crowdstrike update gone bad.

Clearly not resolved then. And highly suspicious that it was tonight of all nights.

It’s going to be a bad week of travel to catch back up. Global issue with Crowdstrike update affecting numerous sectors bricking computers.

Cloudstrike took town Internet. It is not a joke.

If you/your org is affected, here is the fix

Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment
Navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory
Locate the file matching “C-00000291*.sys”, and delete it.
Boot the host normally.
Now, if windows are protected with Bitlocker and your don't have key - you are SOL.

Flight got cancelled. Got rebooked on PHX-EWR AA2825. Quite the long night tonight.

AA is reporting that they are back online. A handful of flights have recently departed.

At LHR about to take off on a BA flight and word is T3 is a mess and no AA flights have taken off. BA seems to be minimally affected.

I'm sitting at DFW; they are misinformed. AAngels report systems down, can't rebook, nothing is updating. Multiple gate screens still show system restore and/or BSoD.

According to media reports, the FAA just grounded DL, UA, and AA due to communication issues.

Notably absent from the list of stand down and crowdstrike airlines is Alaska and Jetblue. Different operating systems?

Best of luck to everyone currently dealing with this mess.

Are flights operating?

(I'm supposed to fly DFW-MIA-LIM today & need to decide whether to bother going to the airport.)
