Minimum Connection Time LGA-JFK

I bought a flight a month ago with a LGA to JFK connection. Due to change in flight times the connection is now 3:55. Is this a legal connection? I called up AA today because the online system said "flight change. check back later." The agent said something about an illegal connection, but then just reissued the ticket with the 3:55? Thoughts?

I don't know what the MCT is LGA<>JFK, but 3:55 is plenty of time to make this connection, even with checked bags and using public transportation.

Assuming youre connecting internationally then the MCT does look like 4 hrs, so not sure how they were able to ticket that.

Yes, it is an international connection AA to AA... should I call them?

Flying from where to where, is there a better connection you could take?

It is IAH to LGA (AA 4289) connecting to JFK to DOH (AA 120). I could do IAH to DOH direct or via another airport! Still confused how they ticketed it if the MCT was 4 hours...

As noted, that is more than enough time. In the worst traffic, it is an hour from LGA to JFK, and more often it's about 15 minutes. Although if you have the option of a non-stop, why not take it?

There is currently construction ongoing as they rebuild the Long Island Rail Road train tracks and bridge above the Van Wyck expressway. I wouldn't chance an evening traverse of the VWE from LGA to JFK given the unpredictability of lane closures.

If you have little luggage the best option in my opinion is to take the the free MTA bus to the Subway. It's non-stop from the airport. There is a direct express subway to to Jamaica Station from where you take the monorail to your terminal. It's quite safe IMHO, could take as little as 45 mins ( but 1 hour is more reasonable).

Safe travels!

I can't remember what my connection was, but I did the reverse (LGW-JFK --> LGA-onwards) in the evening with plenty of time to spare. Even went the wrong direction on the subway at first.

Thanks! Where can I check the MCT for LGA<>JFK?

The MCT is 4 hrs as noted above. I'm not quite sure how they were able to reticket it.

As everyone has mentioned a 3:55 connection should be plenty of time if it sticks although it's likely it will get flagged at some point and you'll be forced to switch to a different routing and/or longer connection.

Is this an award ticket or paid ticket, what class, and how far off is your flight? Why did you book this on AA to begin with instead of the QR nonstop? The answers to these questions will help determine your best course of action.

From ExpertFlyer:

It is a paid ticket, in business class, the flight is late June. I booked AA with this stop as it is was like $2K cheaper... Thanks for your help!

JJeffrey, I don't think you've gone far enough down the table. What you have is the Codeshares MCT and the interterminal connections out of JFK. Surely this applies:

**-** DI 2.00 INTER LGA - JFK

Edit: Also seen this in the table, so now I'm confused:

**-AA DI 4.00 INTER LGA - JFK

If there was indeed a schedule change that resulted in a MCT violation, you should be able to get AA to rebook you onto flights that wouldn't involve a LGA-JFK transfer, if you wanted. However, you may end up with a double connect to get from IAH to DOH via JFK since I don't think AA operates IAH-JFK nonstop. Or, you may end up on the AA codeshare operated by B6 IAH-JFK. Schedule changes can often be a blessing in disguise.
