AA Codeshare IROPS
I asked this in the IROPS thread but it doesn’t seem to have much traffic.
We have a codeshare flight from ORD-DFW-DOH with the DFW DOH operated by Qatar. Our plans changed and we’re going to be in DFW now instead of ORD, so I booked a DFW-ORD flight separately to connect to the ORD-DFW-DOH. I have no problems flying the DFW-ORD just to fly back, I am happy to get the extra Tier Points on the flights, but i have a question about IROPS. As it stands now I have a two hour connection in ORD when i land from DFW. If the weather is bad, and my DFW-ORD flight looks like it is going to be late and have a possible misconnect is there a chance AA will let me stay put in Dallas and just catch the DFW-DOH without flying the DFW-ORD-DFW? Again, I would prefer to just fly the flights because of the points, and the ORD-DFW is on a 787. I am Platinum on AA and my wife is Airpass, if that matters. We’re not flying on an Airpass ticket.
I am not expecting anything but what I paid for, and the risk that comes with it, just wanted to see if anyone had experience with a similar situation.

While technically speaking AA doesn't protect across separate tickets and they could tell you to go pound sand, a friendly agent will have no problem with such a request. If you were to get any pushback then I would just go ask someone else at the gate or the Admirals Club, etc.
I had a sort of similar situation a few years back, booked RDU-JFK connecting to JFK-LHR on separate tickets, RDU-JFK gets delayed, the agents in the RDU AC had no problem rebooking me onto the RDU-LHR nonstop later that evening.

Yes, if your DFW-ORD is delayed then just tell an agent in the Flagship Lounge your situation and ask if they can rebook you to only DFW-DOH (essentially just removing the first ORD-DFW segment).
