While technically speaking AA doesn't protect across separate tickets and they could tell you to go pound sand, a friendly agent will have no problem with such a request. If you were to get any pushback then I would just go ask someone else at the gate or the Admirals Club, etc.

I had a sort of similar situation a few years back, booked RDU-JFK connecting to JFK-LHR on separate tickets, RDU-JFK gets delayed, the agents in the RDU AC had no problem rebooking me onto the RDU-LHR nonstop later that evening.
TY! This is all I was looking for, if it’s possible given the situation or if I was screwed from the jump if something happened. I didn’t know given the QR component, but it wasn’t a situation where they’d have to move me to a different QR flight, just removing AA components.
