Rant: why call it "premium"?

Which AA Marketing Guru came up with "Premium" for the New Merged Business/First Class on International Routes. Permium is already the most Used name for Dozens of Airlines who have Superior Economy/Coach.

What exactly are you referring to?

Premium Economy?

Business? Flagship Business? Flagship Business Plus?

In what context? I can only think of that word being used in "Premium Economy". I'll give credit where it's due and it's a true PE cabin with nice seats.

Maybe "Credit Card Class"? Given that now running the world's largest aviation related credit card business is a more relevant to AA than running the world largest airline apparently unlike the past.

Using Google, it's possible to find references on AA.com to such phrases as "premium class," "premium lounge," "premium domestic travel experience," "premium international travel experience," "premium amenities and services," "ultimate premium assistance," and "premium and personal airport experience."

In such cases, premium is all lower-case. It's being used as an adjective.

There are also some references to Premium Class, with the words capitalized. This is in relation to AA elite benefits on Alaska Airlines.

If I'm missing an actual rebranding of Business Class by American Airlines, please provide a link.

Better than when UA called the business cabin Con A Sewer class!

Since AA is eliminating big-girl F from the 77W and A321T, let's just go back to calling the front cabin "first class" instead of "business class" which never made much sense anyway.

Actual business class in 2022 is the cheapest coach seat on the plane, unless you're a C-suite bigshot.

Behind the scenes, it needs to be sold in a business class fare bucket. And so long as AA is marketing a front cabin on international routes, calling it F will only lead to even more gross disappointment than it currently does, in a real F seat.

Assuming you are referring to Premium Economy (given that you mentioned “Premium” and “Economy”), maybe they chose the most-used name because it’s the most descriptive name for that class of service?

I personally dislike when airlines come up with creative names for seats or a class of service that obfuscates what is actually being offered.

Agree 100%

As an infrequent flyer compared to others, I do not follow what all the different names on different routes really mean in First Class. But, I do understand Premium Economy just fine. And, for our semi-annual transatlantic flights, I find PE is a good value.

It's actually the opposite. It makes no sense to call the front cabin of a two-class plane "First."

Economy Plus...for the discerning passenger.

This is even more confusing.
So AA "First Class" on LAX-LHR will be just as Lufthansa "First Class" (which is only offered in long haul)?

One has to say "Domestic" First or "International" First or "First on three (or 4 class plane)" to understand what someone is talking about.

The front cabin in domestic flights should simple be called "BUSINESS". IMO.
