3-class first being discontinued? [Twitter / travel blog reports]
Simple Flying reports American will be discontinuing its First Class cabins on the 777-300ER and A321T.

Are we supposed to be surprised? AA has an absolutely disgraceful F product because its management (from the old America Pest) has bever believed in it and thus has continued to debase the product in every possible way.

I've flown Flagship F 3 times, JFK-LAX, SFO-JFK, and MIA-LAX. I was unimpressed. The seats seem no larger or more comfortable than regular J; the food isn't necessarily better, FFD is nice but it wasn't available in MIA because FFD opens at 1PM and my flight was at 1:35, and SFO has no FL and LAX FFD has never reopened after COVID. (The time I flew MIA-LAX the guy in the seat in front of me said he did go into FFD at 1:00, was out by 1:10, and was the last person to board, but he was much younger and presumably more mobile than me!)
It's no loss. Maybe someday I'll fly overseas and experience a true F product.

While I don't doubt this is the long term plan, the article seems very premature. Presumably it's based on a recent JonNYC tweet.

So here is the question that will have a lot of the upper crust of the AA forum gnashing their teeth.....if the AA F class product on the A321T and the 77W really is going away, does that mean that FFD goes away too???

One assumes F is primarily populated by upgrades and non-revs. So AA doesn't invest in training or the soft product, and delivers an inconsistent experience, which makes it less likely that anyone would pay full price for it, and on and on.

Good question. I can imagine something might replace it in certain airports. With BA moving to T8 at JFK, I'd be surprised not to see there being a sit down dining set up for BA F, plus CKs, GGLs and AA's business plus or whatever it's called that gets you into FFD currently.

Ben wrote, “Personally I think it’s likely that they’ll stick around. I suspect American would just change the way these are monetized, just as we’ve seen the recent introduction of American Flagship Business Plus fares, which include Flagship First Dining.”
It’s just speculation at this point, but it makes sense.

I said this on another thread somewhere, but won't be a huge loss for me as long as AA opens up nonzero transcon business saver availability once F is gone from the A321Ts. Being able to score F and FFD access for 25k MR transferred to Etihad is a great way to fly transcons - all made possible by last-minute Z saver award availability. However, I've never seen U saver space open up on a transcon since much earlier this year when I saw a few BOS-LAX-SFO itineraries bookable through AS.

Based upon my small sample size of two SFO/JFK flights (June and yesterday), it appears that AA is overselling J to the extent that there are available F seats. I scored an op up yesterday to F (as a OWE). I expect that AA isn't releasing much if any saver F space for this reason. Meanwhile, service was excellent. Food was fine except for the main course.

I've actually seen tons of saver F space lately. P2 and I flew JFK-SFO last night on EY awards and the F cabin went out 3/10.
IMO 321t F and FFD is a differentiated product vs a 60 seat polaris J cabin or the tired old delta 763s on this route... Have you tried the Don Julio 1942?
