Avoid at all costs tickets on AA with BA as a codeshare partner. We had to buy a new one way ticket from Lis to DFW recently because BA said there was an error with our record that was AA’s fault and we couldn’t check in. AA said it is BA’s fault and neither airline is willing to refund the cost of the extra ticket or take responsibility. Many people wont have the money to purchase a new one way ticket like we did. We will pursue legal action but please be forewarned. BTW this happened to other passengers on the same flight.

AA will sell you a ticket but claims no responsibility if code share partner BA fails to perform. Buyer beware: we had to buy new-one way tickets along with other passengers recently from LIS-LHR-DFW when BA said there was a problem with our record and AA said it was BA’s fault. Neither carrier accepting responsibility and we are out $2000. Buyers beware as this could happen to you.

More details?
AA or BA flight number? AA or BA operated?
Was this the return of a DFW-LIS-DFW ticket? If "yes" was there any issues on the first flight?
Did you have a e-ticket number?

100's of people fly BA AA codeshares every day.

How unfortunate.

So, BA did nothing to resolve the issue (other than to blame AA) in order to get you onto the booked BA flights and left you high and dry.

I would not be surprised if there was a mistake that wasn't your fault here, but this does not require two threads. And *lots* of people manage to fly BA codeshares on AA tickets without problems every day. I would encourage you to pursue credit card chargebacks for your purchased tickets. If the issue was AA or BA's fault, you should have no issue getting the new tickets taken care of.

Yes that is the situation a month later. Each carrier blaming the other andthe customers that bought tickets in good faith be damned.

Buyer Beware AA codeshareticjet

Few people that hear this story can believe you can buy a ticket and have 2 airlines blame one another and the passenger is screwed. This isnt over as I will pursue all legal options as a matter of principal. My 1.3 million miles on AA dont seem to matter either. This reflects the current state of the airline industry. Buyers beware!

Where did you buy the ticket? Was it AA metal or BA? Was it purchased very recently?

How about actually detailing what the actual problem was and process taken to try and resolve it ; if there was an issue with the issuing of the ticket, then surprised that AA would not have fixed it. Given that the outbound seems to have been flown . did you make any changes to the booking ( eg, change date ) ?

OP: A good chunk of AA passengers to London go onwards with BA. BA aren't perfect, but posting like this with ZERO details is not helpful to the community, either share more or understand that many will ignore your post.

Side note: I've used BA onwards with AA at least 50 times in the last 4 years - only twice have I had major issues.

Other way around for me. My AA long haul flight was cancelled with no automated rebooking…nothing. As my ticket was issued by BA, I called and had the issue resolved. Granted calling was a hassle and a long wait, but it was fixed.

BA let you fly LHR-LIS, so it would be odd, without any changes, that there would be an issue with the LIS-LHR flight.
Why did you need to book an entirely new one way ticket to the US, instead of simply buying the LIS-LHR ticket, and using the original AA booking?
DId BA see an issue with both the BA flight and the AA flight? Was any this discussed with AA in LIsbon?
What happened with your refund request return booked via AA? Did they simply say they couldn't refund the ticket? That's not logical.

Obviously a lot of the details are missing here but a refund is not going to make him whole. A walk up OW was probably more expensive than his whole RT, of which they would refund (at most) half since he (apparently) flew the outbound.

The ticket was sold by AA on their ticket stock. Myself and other passengers asked BA to sell us a new tickets for the same LIS-LHR flight but they refused saying the flight was full. We said sell us the same seats and they said “it doesn’t work that way” and refused. So our only choice was to buy a new ticket on another flight. I primarily think this is BA’s fault but expected AA to take responsibility since we paid them fir the round trip flight.

I suggest you take a pause on posting as you're about to hit your 5 day post limit

Please read all of the responses and answer the questions raised. People are wiling and able to provide advice but you need to be more cogent and concise in what happened and when for them to do that.

AA and BA have been codesharing and in the OW Alliance together for over 20 years. For about 12 of those years I was AA EXP and BA Gold, traveling on whatever ticket made sense (eg cost, ability to upgrade), and crediting it to which of the two plans made sense (eg credit towards elite status.) The few issues I had between the two airlines were inevitably cleaned up to my satisfaction, they have well established ways of working with each other (I think AA calls it a BA liaison, or desk.) To be fair it could take longer than you would expect but be clear and polite and you should not be disappointed in getting what you deserve.
