Assign AAdvantage Number to BA Award Booking on AA?

I don't seem to be having luck changing my BA award booking on AA metal to reflect my AAdvantage number. I want to do this so I have free access to preferred seats. Both the Finnair and BA websites flamed out, perhaps because this is an award booking. Any workarounds? Note this is on an AA flight number, not a BA codeshare number.

Try RJ. It seems to be able to make this work when AA, AY and others can’t. You may also need to remove the FFP number first and then add it again. I did this recently with a booking via BA. It took a few minutes for the new number to sync through the system but it did work.

It is officially not allowed:
you cannot redeem partner airline miles with your partner frequent flyer number and obtain AAdvantage program benefits such as priority boarding and access to preferred seats.

Thanks…should I enter AA’s PNR, or BA’s? When trying AY I entered the BA locator.

I think I remember having success by saying at booking time that I was booking for someone else, not myself. (Of course, you can redeem BA points for someone other than yourself.) Then input your own name and other details but don't give input a frequent flyer number. Then you have an AA reservation with no frequent flyer number and can attach your AAdvantage number after booking.

Of course, that doesn't work once you've already booked the trip. And it's been multiple years (pre-pandemic) since I've redeemed any miles.
