unfortunately that doesn't work for an award ticket

Maybe you can book an award ticket for a passenger who happens to have the same name and DOB as yours, who is not a member of AAdvantage?

You can't book an award ticket for anyone else once youre on that flight, it seems.

Yeah that's basically what I learned. I tried everything. Makes no sense. And again -- this was a different itinerary but the first flight was the same. Super frustrating. I ended up resolving it by booking the ticket with my son's points instead of mine. So it worked out but boggles my mind that it won't let me do it the other way. Like... why? I should be able to book 50 seats on the flight if I'm paying.

Yup. I posted a thread recently expressing my exact frustration - SO and I booked on a flight and tried to book the father in law on the same flight. Despite different name (including full last name), DOB etc. aa.com wouldn't take it.

Took < 5 mins on the phone to book him on the same flight.
