I haven’t checked all the flights but typically when they have a press release with dates when the flights will start those flights seem to be loaded in the system. I checked AUS-MSY for Sept and no direct flight loaded as of yet. Even called AA and the agent said the flight wasn’t loaded and was unsure when it would be. Super curious as to the price as the 80 minute flight is fairly cheap on Spirit non-stop.

Flights are typically loaded Saturday night/Sunday morning. If not this weekend, I'd expect they'll load on an upcoming weekend.

Beach condos around VPS rent weekly from Saturday to Saturday so Saturday seasonal ends up making a lot of sense.

AUS-MSY R/T Sept 1-Sept 5. $1012 for Main Cabin in an RJ-175. Checked other dates as well. Hub to DFW and you save ~800 bucks. The wife and I will likely just do the non-stop Spirit for ~215 bucks. I love me some OneWorld but not that much. Not even in the ballpark. Kinda sad. Oh well.

The flights just hit the system overnight and not all fares will be loaded at once, give it a little time, the fares will even out.

While I agree that's the reason, I'm guessing there might be a tiny bit of OneWorld connections happening (QR, BA, IB, etc)?

Sheesh people are impatient. There's almost no chance of AA not matching NK if NK is in this market nonstop. When new services are added they will be on default bid prices for a little while until the forecast catches up. But it's pretty obvious that an oddball point-to-point leisure market like AUS-MSY is going to require matching ULCC pricing if AA wants to depart with anything other than a sea of empty seats...

And now that I know NK is in AUS-MSY nonstop, I will place my money on this being the first of the new AA AUS nonstops to get canceled!

The AUS-RDU timing is interesting, because it's the opposite of the old DL CR9 timing. DL had a 1x/day 8am-ish CR9 RDU-AUS and a return around noon. (wasn't always the same plane, it would swap with the CVG-AUS CR9 sometimes). But even in pre-COVID times, DL only charged $99 each way to upgrade from most coach fares to F.

MCO and maybe TPA used to be B6 routes, so with their new collaboration I'm not surprised to see excess AA metal there for a while.

Jetblue still flies AUS-MCO. I didn't think they ever flew AUS-TPA?

I’ve missed FlyerTalk since pandemic! It’s such a transparent place. The fare did level out to the Spirit fare and wife and I booked it. Since Ive done the Spirit non stop from AUS to MSY and know how full it is perhaps its a better market than one thinks. But I don’t purport to an expert on anything other than being impatient.

Plenty of T class open throughout the schedule if you’d rather do MSY-AUS on Avios. Or AA is matching the 15k r/t pricing on a lot of dates. I’m relatively indifferent about visiting AUS again, so I’m going to wait for a sale fare tracker to alert. Nice to know we have the option. If NK goes mechanical on that route, it’s unlikely you’re getting there the same day.

As for September 1-5/6, that’s Labor Day weekend, so who knows.

The tourist zone is really a homeless camp now, so I would not bother coming here (to AUS) to have fun. These AA flights are probably more for Austinites to leave town. I like these new routes, and the Alaska and Jet Blue hook ups are already getting used by us.

Always glad to see my home airport get some new routes. I prioritize flying whoever has a n/s first so this will mean more AA for me. Managed to hit PLT last year b/c of the easier qualification.

There's plenty of fun going on in downtown Austin right now. I wouldn't expect someone in Boerne to know

There are a handful of homeless camps but other than avoiding those particular sidewalks it hasn't changed anything. There is a ballot initiative in May to reinstate the camping ban. I predict it'll pass.
