Is this per way? Indeed some trips I was watching went up about 100, but that was RT, so 80 of this 100 would make sense. Any hope of a similar act for 2021, and if we book a flight tomorrow and it passes, will a refund be due?

I'll visit AA.com every day and check out the Daily Deals as long as there are no painful videos with Vasu Raja whispering into the camera.

The departure tax is exactly that, payable one way upon departure of the US. The Excise tax would be in addition to that.

Example - A $100 fare Miami to London on Dec 31st, would be $100 + $7.50 + $38.90 = $146.40 Jan 1.

It’s not a real fare but an example showing a notional cost pre and post 1st January.

This would actually discourage me from booking AA to the Caribbean.

Yup, especially when large families with uncontrolled kids completely take over the F cabin (noting that this promo is valid for all cabins).
