Downgrade points

Hello,
I had a ticket from Lax to Las on first class. I changed the flight to a standby earlier one and they downgraded me in economy in order to get that flight.
Will I get the same avios points for a first class ticket?
Thank you

Was there a delay/cancellation/other on your original flight or did you take the earlier for your own convenience? If it was just your convenience, then no, you won't get anything.

The way this is written, it sounds like a voluntary change. If that's the case, I wouldn't expect anything.

Voluntary change = no. Involuntary change = yes.

Why did you (or AA) make the change?

So the waiver was posted, but was there no availability on the flight you moved to and that's why you were standby? If you had been moved to a different flight and confirmed in Y in advance, I could see a case I suppose. I don't think you'll get anything out of this as a standby. I could be wrong.

OP made a voluntary change to a flight which did not have F space. Thus, he was accommodated in F. He could have either flown as booked or asked to be rebooked onto the next flight with F availability.

Isn't OP due a refund for the fare difference between F and Y on that leg, although I suspect in this case it would only be a few dollars and likely not worth the hassle?

It appears that most replies in this thread should have read the OP properly first

You might get better answers for this situation from the BA forum as it seems you're posting the flights to BA and not AA. The folks over there would probably know better how BA would handle this situation given how your flights post to execclcub is governed by BA not AA. Since crossposting isn't allowed might want to ask a mod to move this to that forum?

Agreed, if he was getting AA miles, he could ask AA for Original Routing Credit. For Avios, BA is going to care about the booking class of the ticket at the time of the flight.

Well, presumably AA doesn't reissue the ticket when a customer clears standby for an earlier flight. The ticket will still show first class, but the boarding pass will show coach. I think this situation is in that limbo between how AA does things and how BA does things, but OP is probably more likely to get actual data points from the BA forum.
My guess is that it will post as coach, but you may be able to convince BA to post it as business class. You probably don't even need to tell them the change was voluntary. But certainly I wouldn't expect business class miles/TPs and a refund of the fare difference.
