"Additional Benefits of your Account
Elite Qualifying Miles
The primary cardmember may earn 5,000 Elite Qualifying Miles ("EQMs") after spending $20,000 in Net Purchases that post to the AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver account from January 1st through December 31st each calendar year. The primary cardmember may earn an additional 5,000 AAdvantage® EQMs each calendar year when the cardmember reaches $40,000 in spending on Net Purchases with the AAdvantage Aviator Silver account during the same period. An AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver primary cardmember may earn the maximum 10,000 EQMs once per calendar year, unless the cardmember has already earned the maximum number of EQMs through another AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver account. EQMs earned are in addition to the AAdvantage miles earned for Net Purchases made on the AAdvantage®Aviator™ Silver account. Net Purchases exclude returned goods and services, cash advances, convenience checks, transferred balances, credits, fees and interest charges. Net Purchases made by authorized users through additional cards on the primary cardmember's AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver account will count toward the primary cardmember's qualifying spend. EQMs earned as a result of this benefit will typically be posted to the primary cardmember's AAdvantage® account 6-8 weeks after meeting the spend requirement. EQMs will not count toward Million Miler℠ status. EQMs cannot be redeemed for award travel, AAdvantage® miles or any other AAdvantage® program awards. EQMs earned with the AAdvantage® Aviator™ Silver account qualify toward the primary cardmember's AAdvantage® program elite status earning requirements each calendar year, subject to the limits under the Reward Rules and the AAdvantage® Program. Full details on elite status and qualifications are available in the AAdvantage® section of aa.com."

Too good to be true? Suggests that one could yo-yo up and down to earn EQMs then avoid AFs. At a minimum suggests one could get two years of Silver EQM earnings for one year's AF which makes the card more similar in cost to the old US card. Anyhow, enjoy!
(The missing piece in this is that when you downgrade from Silver to White, there is no AF; yet, at least in my account, White has the upgrade option back to either Red or Silver.)

I feel like BarclayCard is going overkill on the preventative measures for identity fraud.
Not only are they asking for third party validation at login like others mention, but when recently applied for my Red card (I already have a silver) they had me call a phone number and I was assigned to a case manager who asked me to mail in a copy of my drivers license and social security card.

For years we weren't sure whether either White or Blue existed. Now it's clear White exists, but what about Blue? Blue was to have about half the AF of Red, and some but not all of the benefits. IIRC, the benefits it gave up were mostly the ones that duplicate AA elite status benefits.

Initially called in a few days ago to upgrade, and was told there was no option to do so. But I did apply a few days after they opened up red applications, so I called in again today and was upgraded immediately. Excited for the silver card

No Blue in sight.
Think of White as just a holding place for a Silver you are not wanting to pay the AF on. No AF, no real benefits (0.5 AA miles per $ spend), although with downgrade I did get a 5,000 mile offer on $1,000 spend, which I did take advantage of.

My card just converted to sliver, the counter on the website indicates that spend I have already made YTD does in fact count towards my EQM spend.

Red to Silver question
Are you guys that are calling in to upgrade from Red to Silver getting an instant upgrade or are you getting the promise of one in 30 days?
I did the upgrade online and was told it would happen in 30 days. I called today to see if the upgrade could be quicker and the agent said there was no way to upgrade over the phone, which I know is intrue.

I also asked several times if my 2017 spend-to-date would be counted toward my EQM and EQD thresholds...and was told no...clearly no. That also would only start to accrue on Day One of my next billing cycle.
HOWEVER, as noted above, my total 2017 spend before the switchover DID count toward my EQM count!!!! Pleasant surprise. (You can check this in your Barclay card account by clicking "Rewards & Benefits" and then choosing Rewards Summary in the dropdown)
**Please note, I see no where to calculate the progress toward the EQD threshold, but logically it should be the same as the EQM numbers, right?

I could've sworn I'd seen this in the wiki or something for *this* thread, but maybe I was imagining things.
If you were a USAirways cardholder who was upgraded to the Red AAdvantage Aviator card, and you still have that card, can you apply and get the 40k bonus for the "new" Red card? I am positive I'd seen something in a wiki that listed like 4-5 "data points" and posts where people had done that, but maybe I've been reading too many credit card threads. LOL!

In this case, there are at least 3 threads, this one here in the AA forum and at least these two in the Credit Cards forum:
Presumably what you were thinking of is in one of the other Barclay AA Aviator threads.

Remember, for this (and many other) airline credit cards, there's typically at least one thread in a credit card forum and then another separate thread in the airline forum.

(And yes, it appears if you had the USAir card, and was upgraded and are a current cardholder, you can get the "new" card).

Plus there is apparently a business Aviator card coming, but the timing is unclear (just "2017").
