Mine was mid-80’s and the two letters aren’t my initials so your Dad’s must have been a coincidence.

same here - mid 80s with two random letters and then numbers. But I do appreciate the sheer coincidence of your dad's card with his initials as the two letters What a coincidence indeed!

For those not interested in exploring the "rabbit hole" (nice analogy), here is a synopsis from one of the posts:

"So we're not quite sure things are sequential, but we do know the following order:

1. NNNNNNN
2. ANNNNNN
3. AANNNNN
4. alphas start showing up in the middle"

Time frames are best guesses based on data points, but approximately: 1) 1981- 1982, 2) 1982 - 1985, 3) 1985-1990, 4) 1990 on.

Cheers,

Ours were issued Jan 88 and the sequence is ANANNNN, which you don't have listed above.

Yours would fall into bucket #4 ("alphas start showing up in the middle") so perhaps that bucket started in 1988. As mentioned, start/end dates are guesses based on datapoints.

Thx

I only joined in 2004 and since then started my obsession with loyalty programs. My flimsy card looks similar to yours except the dining logo and the embossed numbers.

My father joined in 1981 and has a number that's all numbers starting with 501.

My grandfather, however, was one of these:

DFW DL, MorganB, carlosdca and 6 others like this.

Matching DP: "Member since Jun 1989", same ANANNNN. The card says 1/88 on the back, so maybe that is when they started that pattern?

Interesting that they'd overlap, though. You did see examples of #3 post 1987?

United ruined it. My United number was replaced with my Continental OnePass number. I liked my UA number better.

My lifetime card is from 1978. 7 numbers in the 1156000 range. Card faded to the point of illegibility so I had it replaced last year.

Mine is thick plastic like a credit card and has a magnetic strip on the back.
