Fare difference problems after first leg flown

Hi all, slightly odd one.

I had a good Inverness to Las Vegas fare originally booked in business:

INV-LHR-PHL-LAS-PHL-LAS

At Inverness I got news that someone was taken seriously ill so got off the plane at Heathrow and told AA that I wouldnt be flying. No problem, very nice and they removed the segments, held the return just in case, but it turns out I couldnt fly that either.

Ive now called to reprice this ticket, and I cant get a fare change for any date for the rest of the year for less then 3400. A big part of the problem is that since Ive flown the INV-LHR segment is that the ticket has to be repriced as a LHR-LAS ticket, which are always insanely priced. He checked if I could route from somewhere else like DUB but it wasnt allowed.

It wasnt an expensive ticket (~1100) so its not the end of the world to loose it, its just a little annoying to loose a business class return...

theyre waiving the 300 change fee for family emergency, but cant waive things like 7 day advance purchase rates, or over ride the origin issue.

any ideas?

Yea, not much you can do. I've had a few instances over the years where I've had to cancel trips mid-itinerary like this. Every time it was cheaper to just book a brand new ticket to wherever than to try and salvage any value from the cancelled ticket.

Have you tried rebooking it with origination in INV and getting credit for the unused segments of the original ticket?
