method of mileage calculation
Last week I flew AA metal DFW-PEK on Economy L and then Malaysian PEK-KUL on Economy L. One ticket bought on AA site.
For DFW-PEK my account summary says method fare and I got 6971 EQMs and 3790 base + 1516 bonus (gold) so 5306 total miles.
For PEK-KUL my account summary says method distance and I got 1356 EQMs and 678 base + 272 bonus (gold) so total 950 miles.
How come the mileage calculation is different for both legs, and how come total miles are less than EQMs?
I'm happy about the EQMs but not happy about the total miles. Before reaching out to AA, checking here if this is a mistake in my favor or disadvantage, or its the right way of mileage calculation and no action required.
Thanks in advance.

AA has changed the way it gives award miles since Aug 1, 2016. It looks right.
I am not sure why you get 50% on PEK- KUL as opposed to 25%, does AA keep a different table for EQM and RDM for partner?
it seems that you get double the EQM on PEK - KUL as L class earns 25% on AA.

The Malaysia Airlines earning page is here - https://www.aa.com/i18n/travel-info/...a-airlines.jsp - 1/2 EQM per mile flown and quarter miles as base RDMs and 5% distance as EQDs. I assume therefore that PEK-KUL is 2712 miles.
The earnings are different because you had an AA flight number to PEK and a Malaysia flight number to KUL – earnings are by flight-marketing airline (but not by ticket-selling airline).
