I've a flight RDU-DFW-NRT-SIN upcoming soon. The first flight is leaving in the early morning. Now something has popped up at work and I'll need to be on a call at the time of that RDU-DFW leg. Is it generally possible to move that initial flight to the night before, so my connection time of 3 hours becomes more like 12-14 hours? Or would that require separate tickets?

On an international itinerary, you can have 24 hours between connections (or next flight out if that is more than 24 hours).
If you have already booked a ticket, then you would be subject to change fees

There is no way to change the date of departure without cancelling/rebooking (and paying a change fee). (Occasionally they will be accommodating if you change a redeye, like from an 11PM departure to 12:30AM the "next day.") Can you get internet access on the flight and be "on call" that way? Your other alternative is to do a Same Day Confirmed, but that will probably be a mess because it's not at all clear you could find a later flight DFW-NRT.

Thanks for confirming. After that I called AA and they were able to re-issue the ticket with the changed departure of a day early. In fact, I even added a segment to be able to leave latest on that prior day. Fare difference ($8) and change fee ($250) applied, but in that case I had to take that.
Thanks again!

That could have ended up a lot worse for sure. Glad it was all sorted.
