Calling AA via VOIP: Skype, Hangouts, Voice, Etc.
I've tried various AA phone numbers using Skype but get "you cannot call this number on Skype". Other numbers such as Hilton and Citibank work fine.
Any ideas?

That is interesting. Same experience for me today with the “free” 800 numbers not working. Just this past weekend calling in was working fine using Skype.

All other 800 numbers worked fine. I downloaded voca and connected just fine. It wasn't free but a 15 minute call cost 12 cents from Argentina.

Google Hangouts can also make calls on an iPhone or Mac desktop (through the web interface in the latter case). Dunno if you have to have a Google Voice account and number; I do.

2nd for Google Hangouts - new accts may need to deposit a min amount of credit but if you ever used it before the calls to US Toll Free numbers are free. You can do it through the web on a mac/PC ; http://hangouts.google.com
Pretty much the primary way I call AA when out of the country
Also find the audio quality on hangouts MUCH MUCH better than Skype

They aren't blocking it - they are doing regional call routing and for some reason this is broken with Skype right now. My own company's HR service center toll free number has the SAME issue - worked a year ago or so and then had the same problems as calling AA, our telco provider said they changed nothing and they assume it's Skype having issues on their end. Just started using Google Hangouts in a web browser and don't see the issue any longer. Shame AA doesn't share a non toll free number - with most calling services free for domestic they may actually save money sharing a routing local number.

Works fine for me on skype with a proper phone number put in for caller ID. If you use the default skype caller ID, it will appear as an invalid number on their caller ID.

I have caller ID on my Skype line still doesn't work. I can call the Spanish AA number and normally the agent will help in English vs my broken Spanish. Just as easy to use Hangouts

Thanks for the help. I think I figured it out. I replaced my U.S. chip with one from Argentina with a local phone number. I don't know if Skype deleted my old number or if I did but the field for a verified phone number was blank. I put in my Argentina number and verified it and all is good with contacting AA. Still it seems that AA blocks calls without an ID whereas other US companies don't.

Toll free numbers in the US use ANI to capture inbound phone numbers, so using something like *67 wasn’t blocking much of anything when calling AA’s toll free numbers in the US. But perhaps Skype calls from those without Skype phone numbers weren’t getting AA the information AA wanted.

Anonymous Call Block type features don’t magically get enabled when they weren’t enabled before. AA, or someone acting on AA’s behalf in whole or part, must have done something that resulted in a call block of some sort to just these blocked AA 800 numbers.
