SAN-SIN on CX: fare and search questions

So, I'm about to book a SAN-SIN roundtrip. It's not a mileage run but with 90k EQMs to date and likely no other travel planned through end of 2016 to push me over 100k, it might as well should be. Three main OW options for the route are AA, JL and CX. CX has the best OW fares for my early-Dec travel dates (Sat-Sat), but I'm finding most or all the best fares no longer qualify for EQMs, much less actual miles. The cheapest fares on JL at least qualify at 50% (which would put me over 100k, barely). Since it's been years since I last flew CX, I have questions...

Any easy way to research CX fares with their fare codes? I've been making bookings, then calling AA to ask them what they are, which takes about 10 min each time.

CX shows 8 fare classes as ineligible for EQMs: K, M, L, V, Q, S, G, N. Is this likely, or do some of these actually come through as EQMs? Are EQMs more likely if ticket is booked through AA as a codeshare (same price)?

Which stands a better chance of a comp (status) upgrade to premium economy, CX or JL?

Thanks for any input...

Yes. http://www.wheretocredit.com/cathay-pacific-airways (but may not be accurate:use at your own risk)
If wanting information on earning AA miles/EQM you need to be looking at the AA web site for CX flights. Not looking at the CX web site

If a ticket has an AA flight number you earn AA miles at AA rates (AA flight number and Cx operated)
In Oneworld the marketing carrier (flight number) determines earnings, if an eligible flight. AA earning now more difficult to determine depending the who issues the ticket (AA - 001 IIRC)

This is a question for the AA forum. Been asked many time before (been reported)

Forget about a comp free upgrade

How to research OneWorld fare codes for prospective bookings?

Any suggestions for how to easily research fare codes for prospective bookings?

I am trying to book a SAN-SIN roundtrip, and because it's likely my last trip of the year, I want to make sure it nets 10k EQMs, to push me over 100k for the year. Most or all the best CX fares no longer qualify for EQMs, much less actual miles, but I've only been able to determine fare codes by making a booking online and then calling AA reservations to have them tell me -- cumbersome!

Given all the recent devaluations, I would think this would be something other members are demanding, so maybe I'm overlooking something?

I believe booking through AA as an AA codeshare aka marketed flight will give EQM per mile flown.

Wouldn't this be better posted in AA forum?

If you can get a CX or JL flight which has AA codeshare, you'll earn as if you were flying AA, but you'll also pay the price as if you were flying AA!

Now, keep in mind that 'ineligible codes' really means AA doesn't want to give you anything for the flight. It does not mean AA isn't generating revenue from having your FF# on the booking.

As you've not flown with CX for some time, I would suggest it won't matter what you buy, an upgrade won't happen.

For comfort factors, I'd choose CX, unless you can stretch the budget to business then I would go JL without hesitation.

Not no longer, CX (PRIME) flights in coach never had EQMs...

If you can book as AA codeshare, then it'll be no different from AA prime flights, you'll get the EQMs.

As for operational upgrade, much more likely to happen on CX, but don't count on it happening still , expect to fly in the cabin you have paid for. (Although my op up rate last year ex-US as AA EXP was 100%)

Thank you, Mwenenzi. With all the new rules and hurdles I am having trouble keeping it straight, and this is a -- um -- special time of the year for those of us seeking EQMs.

P.S. Wheretocredit.com is a nifty tool (~accuracy noted). It'd be great if they did one for hotel partners.

In my experience with CX, the lowest fare to earn AA EQMs would actually be E class, which is premium economy.

This is because only Y/B earn 100% EQM and H earns 50% EQM, and Y/B are full fares and H is near full fare.

E is the cheapest Premium Economy so it often prices under H. R is the middle Premium fare and W is the full Premium fare. Note that only W actually earns the 10% RDM bonus (I'm not going to cry over less than 1000 RDMs).

On top of that, E earns 150% EQM just like W, R and First/Business fares on CX prime flights.

OP created two threads on essentially the same topic at about the same time. They've now been merged into this one thread. There may be some odd continuity issues, no way around that—best way around it in future is to post one thread on the topic rather than two.
